XM display on stock/dealer optional radio units......

Hey all, I'm arranging to buy an xD and have a question about the dealer radio options.

I routinely use XM Radio to listen to college football and basketball games and like being able to see the live-updated scores on the radio display while listening. This feature is available on radios that display more than a couple lines of text so my question is: When tuned to XM radio how many lines of text does the base model radio display; and when tuned to XM radio how many lines of text does the premium radio model display? Has anyone listened to a game on XM and been able to read the score on the display?

This feature is important but if the premium radio upgrade will do it for me I'll save from having to opt up to the Navigation system which has a more complete display.

I have the base radio with (free) satellite service from Sirius, and I only get one line :( It doesn't scroll either. I'm not sure about the premium stereo or XM, but the dealer should at least have a Scion with the premium unit already installed to show how it looks.

However nice the premium unit might be, for that price you can find much better functioning and looking headunits than what they offer. Then again with getting it when purchasing the car, its in the payments.

Thanks for the info on the base radio. My local dealers(3) have no Scions with XM, or Sirius installed and in fact have only a couple of cars on the lot due to the Teamster's carhaul strike--all the cars are stuck at port in NJ.

My IS350 has the Nav system that is just about identical to the Nav package offered on the xD, and has 3 or 4 lines of display when tuned to XM. Just hate to spend that much $.

They constistantly have new Scion OEM NAV units on ebay for around $900-$1200. You might pick one up there. I have also seen the OEM XM units there as well.

Does anyone know if the Scion Nav system has an internal memory that stores all of the nav data or does the system require the DVD to be in place for the system to operate? In other words, is the DVD just used when installing/updating the memory of the nav system?

You need the DVD in the unit for navigation to work.

Thanks, JonRick for the info. I recently "updated" the Nav system in my IS350 and they left a DVD in my glove box. I assumed that I had purchased the new software update which they ran on the system and they left the DVD in my car. Didn't even think that the Nav system might be working off of a DVD that is left in place. I didn't even look at the DVD to see how it is labeled.

I was thinking that maybe a couple of years from now I'd be able to update my IS350 Nav system and slip that same DVD into the xD for an update there as well. Doesn't sound like that will be possible.

Lexus charged $300 for the update which I choked on, but the update made some dramatic improvements in the system including improvements in the user interface.
