It seems like everyone hates the automatic transmissions. Why?

Also, how much power can it handle reliably?

I have no problem with the auto what-so-ever.

A 5-speed auto would have been nice for a little better mpg, but the torque of the 2.4L works fine with the 4-speed auto.

All the people that hate it are speed racers that shouldnt have bought an xB or an auto for that matter... It is what it is... I like it...

and it could probably handle up 250hp safely...

EVERYONE?? Maybe a select few are not happy with them or wish they would've gotten the 5 speed. I'm very happy with my choice of the automatic and have no issues with it.

First auto I have ever owned so I'm not sure how it stacks up to other but none the less it shifts smoothly and the car still moves fine with it :)

Nobody could tell you how much power it will handle, after all if you are looking for enough power to break it you probably got the wrong car anyway :)
