new to the car market so i was wondering if anybody could answer several questions

1) what was your "out the door" price for the scion xD (not the limited edition)?
2) if you've compared the honda fit w/ the scion xD, which did you find better in terms of comfort in the driver/passenger/rear seats?
3) the rear sway bar is supposed to increase handling vastly but is this in the cost of comfort?
4) tinting- any suggestions? cost? (im looking foward to moderate legal tinting)
5) has anybody come up with a homemade cargo cover? (200 bucks? to cover a tiny trunk seems excessive)
6) i heard about mirrors that remove certain blindspots... how?cost?
7) vsc- yes or no? does it really help that much?
8 ) probably going to get a simple car seat cover, will this affect the side airbags?

sorry for all the questions. but the search engine came up with a few thousand topics
:nails:

august has to be the worst car shopping month, wouldn't know to get an 08 or an 09, esp when the fit is getting a pretty major redesign also.

THANKS

1) For me, about 18,500 since I got the auto with a couple dealer upgrades.
2) Comfort goes to the xD in the long haul, actually. Even though the seats seem a bit hard, they're quite comfortable on long drives. I've never had a comfort complaint. Though I wish it had a lumbar adjustment.
3) Dunno here, haven't done upgrades beyond ICE.
4) Depends on the state... 35% and 20% look very nice on the xD. Expect to spend $250 give or take.
5) I saw one person here who made a cargo cover slash sub box that was way cool. Other than that, not really.
6) Broadway mirrors! They will have you seeing EVERYTHING. Also, you can pick up little convex mirrors at your local Target for 6 or 7 bucks that stick to your side mirrors.

1. I found a used xd with 5k miles on it, I paid 13900.
2. I really looked at the fit, it’s the only real competitor to the xd, but the xd is more substantive, road better and doesn’t look like an economy car, the fit does.
3. the reas sway bar is worth it, my xd corners like a sports car! Lol
4. I had the ceramic tinting put on, love it, works well.
5. nope
6. I paid 9 bucks for mine, works great. Ill post a pict soon
7. no idea
8. no idea

1) what was your "out the door" price for the scion xD (not the limited edition)?

18k + change, no down and no trade.

2) if you've compared the honda fit w/ the scion xD, which did you find better in terms
of comfort in the driver/passenger/rear seats?

I like the Xd better which is part of the reason I bought it.

3) the rear sway bar is supposed to increase handling vastly but is this in the cost of comfort?

Can't say on the Scion, but on my vette and on my former Z28 (2000), the sway bar didn't make a bit of difference in day to day "ride", just helped in cornering a bit.

4) tinting- any suggestions? cost? (im looking foward to moderate legal tinting)

Any pro installer will do. Legal is the way to go. No tickets, no hassles and much easier at night (less libility and danger)

5) has anybody come up with a homemade cargo cover? (200 bucks? to cover a tiny trunk seems excessive)

???

6) i heard about mirrors that remove certain blindspots... how?cost?

Convex spot will do the trick. Couple bucks at any parts store and stick 'em on.

7) vsc- yes or no? does it really help that much?

???

8 ) probably going to get a simple car seat cover, will this affect the side airbags?

???

Now that I had my fun....
But seriously not many other car owners a part of a community like Scion owners.

1) I have the XD Special Edition: The price posted is the price everyone pays, no games.

2) I looked at the fit but liked the xD better
3) The sway bar helps roll on corners, not normal ride, TRD lower springs a different story.
4) tinting: Huper Optics, It is very legal blocks heat, and looks great.

5) Did not care about a cover.
6) You can use fish eyes but I really havn't found a need.
7) If you are in snow and rain probably, I chose no for AZ.
8 ) Not sure

1) what was your "out the door" price for the scion xD (not the limited edition)?
MSRP x 1.(local tax rate) + dealer/registration fees + parts & labor - down payment +/- trade in

2) if you've compared the honda fit w/ the scion xD, which did you find better in terms of comfort in the driver/passenger/rear seats?
xD feels safer other then that they feel the same.

3) the rear sway bar is supposed to increase handling vastly but is this in the cost of comfort?
No, springs will do this, the bar will give you an increased feel of the road and turning radius

4) tinting- any suggestions? cost? (im looking foward to moderate legal tinting)
Check with your local traffic laws. Shouldn't be any more then $350 at most

5) has anybody come up with a homemade cargo cover? (200 bucks? to cover a tiny trunk seems excessive)
You can always try retro fitting one from another car that might sell for cheaper

6) i heard about mirrors that remove certain blindspots... how?cost?
Search Broadway mirrors. Wouldn't pay more then $25

7) vsc- yes or no? does it really help that much?
If you live in a very snowy/rainy area, I supposed. My situation, its just extra weight.

8 ) probably going to get a simple car seat cover, will this affect the side airbags?
No.

Drive the Honda Fit and compare. I drove one at great length before settling on the xD, and I think it feels like an under-powered go-cart. I also think it is incredibly ugly, inside and out.

If you don't care how your car drives or looks, get the Honda Fit for sure!

I would wait till the new model of the Fit comes out and test drive that one. Personally the current model is lacking in several areas so maybe the new model is better. Heck I'm going to test drive the new Fit when it comes out for the fun of it

17.2K out the door with upgrade Scion wheels (not TRD), dealer installed rear sway, and stability control.

Comfort similar to fit. Prefer the foam in the xD.

Rear bar has no effect on comfort.

Tinting is up to the individual. No advice here.

Cargo cover - do it right and get the dealer option (or contact sparks toyota (always cheaper than your local dealer)

VSC is like airbags - you wont care until they work. Studies prove VSC is helpful in many limit-conditions. It does nothing for normal - routine driving.

No seat cover! Will be blown apart and may negatively effect airbag deployment!

Yes, it is definitely worth ordering the cargo cover from TDSparks. They are so amazing to deal with--super nice guys.

1) OTD price was $15,220+tax/title/reg fees+doc fee of $50... given that taxes are high in NY, it came out to about $16,500

2) The Fit, to me, is the chief competitor of the xD... the advantages of the Fit are its cargo area (which is amazing and innovative) and one additional mpg. In terms of ride, I much preferred driving the xD and felt the 19 hp difference to be significant, especially in accelerating onto the freeway. In terms of styling, I like the way the xD looks better... the Fit looks like a mini-mini-van to me. In terms of options, the Honda dealer will tell you the Fit is less money, but once you add options (you have to get the Fit Sport to add cruise control and mp3 connection), you'll actually spend more on the Fit than on the xD. Finally, with the 08 models, the xD outperformed the Fit on the rear crash test rating... if you're willing to wait, it will be worth driving the all new Fit, which is a redesign for 09.

3) no sway bar on my car

4) no tinting either

5) I bought the cargo cover... at the end of the day, I wanted this option, and I've opted to go OEM on everything except floor mats.

6) that one posted above is really cool.

7) don't have it.

8 ) not sure

I'm with you... what I really hate is that new window by the side mirror. But, to each their own.

Yes! That is especially awful. And the front end is longer and slopes in a weird way. It looks not-so-good.
