Finally a road race video from DezodWest...HQ Version Added!

Here's a video from the recent NASA event here in AZ. I was in the HPDE-2 class, which isn't full on racing, but it's a step up from running with an instructor.

I had an Aston Martin Vantage behind me most of the race, but on the last few laps I put about ten car lengths on them. In this video you will see me passing a Porsche, WRX, S2000, 350Z and more...

No sorry I should have been more descriptive...

It's my Mazda RX-8. Travis had commented that I should make a video so I thought why not... He also stated how poor the RX-8 is at racing and how many other cars would destroy it or what have you.... so I guess this is proof against that theory as well :)

I will add some pics soon I guess. Many of the FI tC guys expressed interest in seeing footage from the event so I thought I'd post here. Most other forums of this site are not familiar with me and you guys probably wouldn't have noticed it...

amazing! i love the RX's handling! even though somewhat underpowered, but a little bit of tinkering under the hood, handling and top end = VERY NICE! very nice vid joe.

Thanks. The turbo build is last on the list for I feel there's more to do with cooling and braking right now. For power all I have is an AEM V2 CAI, a Greddy TT Evo2 exhaust, and RacingBeat mid pipe. The other mods are handing things and a a staggared wheel setup. Motul fluids too :)

Way to go Joe! That video was aweosome. I just watched the whole thing and I love how you passed that wrx, 350Z, s2k, and Porsche. haha. Those cars didnt look stock either so thats sick!

Congrats and it looked fun. Sorry I didnt make it out with Bj, I slept through the race event. lol. I gotta see your car sometime soon man!

Thanks for the compliments Alex... The car spits fire out on half of my shifts now lol. The under side of my bumper is pretty melted. The car is definitely quite a bit different from the last time you saw it. BJ can attest to it being a real beast on the track lately. I even passed some modded Evos in previous sessions. It's always nice passing cars that should be able to destroy me lol.

See you at the next car gig. Hopefully his S2k is running again soon.

sorry joe. the only videos good enough for scionlife have to be of roll races. they must be filmed on "closed courses", with traffic. they must have some kind of annoying rap music for a soundtrack. the race itself must be from 40-120mph, cause thats how jesus did it. you must list up all of mods on your car and competitors car, and then go on to say how your car is only running 2 psi of boost untuned, and your competitors car makes 450whp. furthermore, even if you loose to another tc thats in your own club, and the vidoe clearly shows that, you must never admit it. finally, never ever take videos of your car at the track. because then it will show everyone how fast your car truly is, and you cant make wild claims about having a car that runs 12's.

Hahhaha Brett... Good stuff...

To answer your concern about the WRX. When you race NASA HPDE-2, you are only allowed to pass on the long straight, nowhere else. The first lap is a warm up lap, and I gave the WRX some space. The next lap was the first heat lap and if you watch the vid a couple times you'll notice I wasn't driving as hard as I did the following laps. This is because the track gets greasy in the heat and I wanted to play it safe and not overdrive the car. Once I got a feel for the track I knew what I could do and sure enough of the next lap I made him my b*tch lol...

Nice Joe! I need to mount a camera in the evo next time. Are you going to do the event in Sept? I think I am going to drive out again, so I will be in HPDE-2 :) You still in 2 or you moving on up?

I think I may stay HPDE-2 for a while until I'm comfortable with a few different types of tracks. I dont want to worry about people trying to pass on a corner and risk damaging my ride lol.

After about 3 more events I'll probably try to go to DE-3. But next time you see me I will still be DE-2.
