|
|
| So i was turning off of a highway going onto an off ramp and i was downshifting through my gears and when i tried to go from 4th to 3rd, 3rd gear wouldn't engage, similar to when you try to get to first. After going into neutral and coasting about 30mph i got it to go into 3rd and the engine jumped to 6k rpm and my tires chirped? Im going to the dealer tomorrow so i'll get it checked out, but any thoughts? i only have 1400k on the O/D |

| i wasn't beating on the car though, i was just downshifting from 5-4 and after the rev matched i went to go into 3rd but it felt like a plate was blocking it and it took me a few tried to get it to engage. Any insight as to why its doing this?[/quote] |

| i hate to say it but from what your saying you were actually putting it in first gear. down shifting into 3rd from 4th at 30mph wont rev your engine up to 6000 rpm's and chirp tires. |

| i know for a fact that that's not it, its happened to me a few times before where i was going highway speed 3rd gear locks up like that and it just wouldnt engange until i gave it a few tries. If i shifted going to first going that fast my car would've definately detonated. |

It SOUNDS like you're actually trying to put it into first. Really... that's exactly what it sounds like. Especially if you're revving to 6k under 30mph. Third would be like 2500 around 30mph.
If you're actually NOT putting it into first (I know you say that you're not, but are you 100%, absolutely positive?)... then there is a MAJOR problem with your transmission.
(btw... 10,000th post!) |

| That's truei admit i get "enthusiastic" at times but 3rd gears locked up like that when i was just coasting. Either way i'm going to the dealer tomorrow to drop off the rest of the downpayment xD so i'll ask about it. |

| and yes im completely positive i'm not throwing it into first. going from 4-3 doesn't involve any stick movement to the left or the right so i may be wrong but i don't think i could mess that up. Although 3rd gear has locked up before and when i finally got it in the tires didnt chirp or anything it just engaged and i simply went into 4th after |

u need to just sit in the car one day and map out the gear positions in ur mind... have the car turned off and just play around with the gear positions until you can change gears into the right gear blindfolded.
cuz if u r getting at 6K rpm then u definitely are getting into 1st gear |

| it does sound like a synchro problem, and if u did put it in 1 instead of 3 then at 30 mph u should be at 7k rpms....and i dont think ull be able to put it n first without it grinding.... |

| that's true maybe i was just not paying enough attention but what would explain the other instances where that happened and the rpms didn't jump? the gear just felt like it had a plate blocking it and after jamming it in it engaged and the revs didn't go erradic |

it doesn't involve any movement to the left or the right but when shifting hard... we often steer our hand to the left...
its natural. right hand naturally falls left in a movement, and left hand falls right in a movement.
like i said... map out the gears |

| ok that probably explains today because i believe i was shifting hard, but still no explanation for the times where it happened when i was simply coasting and downshifted slowly. 3rd gear simply just wouldnt engage and when it finally did the the car acted normal. Aside from today i think it's happened about 4 times? Though today was the one time where the rmps jumped and i chirped. Most likely because i was shifting hard |
