Dealer Cant Fix It? [Clunk on Start]?
We took my wifes silver xB to Toyota of Orange this morning to have it looked at. It makes a clunking noise when you start it. It sounds like the motor is hitting the floor. Well, 6 hours and 4 mechanics later, its still not fixed. They said that they dont know what it is, cant fix it, and to come back if it gets worse. WTF? arent these "mechanics" trained by Toyota. What should we do now? We are paying $300 a month for a brand new car that sounds like a beater when you start it. Call Scion Corp.?

Actually you can have the entire vehicle replaced if they can not fix it. Have them take another look at the car, then ask them to replace the drive train. If that doesnt work or they refuse you can enact the lemon law.

ne ways...my xB runs smoother than ever...so i'm not complaining.... initially the car used to sort of shake when at idle..but now it's smooth ...is it because the engine has been broken in? i have 8500 miles on mine now...and runs better than b4.

Okay, so here's what happend; I called Scion Customer Assistance, the number that is in my Warranty Manual and they were SO nice. The first person took down all my information about my experience at the dealership, she then gave me a case number and transferred me to a specialist. Joel was great, he asked me a bunch of questions and told me that Toyota of Orange and/or himself would call me back by Monday end of day to make me an appointment to come back. Joel was going to call the dealership manager. I feel bad, I don't want to get anyone in trouble I just want my car fixed!! I will keep you all updated. Let me know if anyone else is experiencing a noise! I don't know if it is just my car or if there is something with the cars mechanics?? The noise doesn't sound like the exhast.

if worse comes to worse ... u can always write to Toyota Corporate stating the complaint... i've done that with my dad's mercedes...and they were professional enough to send out a special technician from Mercedes directly to look at the car at the same dealer we had complaint with... at the end...the problem was fixed although it took time and alot of frustration...
personally..Mercedes are junk... if u spend $60,000 for a damn car..i expect it to perform well atleast for the duration of its loan...our E-500 had so much computer problem..it was like watching christmas lights blinker everywhere on the dash...
ne ways..my point is... if u have complaint go directly to higher source...make sure the letter is certified..for proof later.

Most if not all service centers can check to see if the vehicle was bought at that dealership or not. regardless its still a toyota and they should fix it whether bought from them or not. i agree some dealers who get customers who have not bought the car from them, they treat differently, ive seen it first hand, it sux. i know you want it fixed which will happen if u raise hell, believe me. if you raise it, they will fix it. they want the customer to have the problem fixed by them, not someone else. as a last resort use the lemon law, it may not be what you want, but if the vehicle cannot be fixed i'd rather have a smooth running car than a bad one, rite?? let warranty and the dealer work it out first, if they can't do nething contact Scion Corp. again and see if they will do a buy-back. just work with the dealer/warranty and get in touch with the service manager/director if not already done. once they head guy is invovled, things get done the right way, trust me.
good luck.

i diagnosed it an made the repair myself. It doesnt make sense, but after removing the strut bar, the noize went away. I dont know how or why the strut bar would cause this. I have strut bars on 2 other cars and no noise.

Not sure to as why it would do that either...
On my DSM the strut bar barely cleared the cam gear cover. And you know front wheel drive + POWER = wheel hop. Anyways Long story short, a 1-2 shift later i have a busted plastic cam gear covers and bits of plastic in my timing belt.
least its fixed. =)
