Default stupid light...errr

I noticed just 3-4 days ago that my "maintenance scheduled" orange light blinks on and off for a couple seconds when i start up my car. It goes away after like 8 seconds. I got my oil changed at 4500 miles, so i have no idea why its doing that. Does anyone know why?

It switches on to remind you of your 5,000 mile service.

To get rid of it,

Why does it switch on and off if i'm at 5600 something miles..i past 5000 miles already, and i got my oil changed at 4500 miles. Shouldn't that light have not blinked at all then? Will that light ever stop blinking? That light drives me crazy!..lol

This happened to us also, basically you need to reset the light. If you look in your owners manual there are instructions on how to reset it. Ever 5000 miles it will go off to remind you to have the oil changed. I can't remember what section it is under but if you look up in the index about dash lights it will tell you what section to go to.

Good Luck Vicki : )

I bet there are quite a few service folks out there who don't know to reset the maintenance light after completing the service. I know folks never reset it on the two Honda's I had before my xB. The link in the first response above explains the process just as it is detailed in the manual.

When i put carbs on my civic the check engine light was on. so i just took the bulb out.. No more check engine light. That was the best diagnostic i have ever did. Tape would of worked also.

i heard that in extreme cases you can take a hammer to the gauge cluster. That should take care of that pesky light.

thanx for the info guys, I do my own maintanence, and i really didn't want to take my car to toyota to have them turn off the light, cuz i flip 5000 in about 150 miles and i was dreading seeing that light come on
