as many of you guys know i have a 195whp & 186wtq n/a tc, wich is slipping alot of tire lately because of the oem open differential and the cars power. i decided to go ahead and install an obx l.s.d to the car, why the obx? because they are very affordable, and are very reliable, lots of people here in puerto rico use them, including 10 sec cars and have nothing but great reviews of the item, i always like to share with you guys, so feel free to ask..

btw.
i didnt need to buy the lsd kit, i used all the oem parts i had in the old diff. wich were in great condition. ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!

did you install your self? how hard is it?

pwee08 01-16-2011 06:21 AM

has there been anyone else that has put the OBX to the test and gave a review because 425 isnt bad for a lsd.

yes it was installed by me and my friend wich is mechanic, surely you need expertise in trans to do this job. wasnt hard at all for us because we know what we are doing, it all depends on your skills

skinnayyy 01-16-2011 05:28 PM

did you take it apart first before installing to make sure everything was torqued right? and did you have to do anything to the shims? those are two things ive heard that people have had to do to make it work right without failing

Thats great to hear

Did you open the LSD to inspect it before you installed it? I know everyone on hondatech.com that buys them always open them up to remove metal shavings or to check that the washer stacks are in the correct order. did you do this?

EDIT: skinnayyy just asked the same thing, just noticed lol

That's impressive. I tried installing a TRD LSD myself. Gave up as soon as I cracked the trans open :eyes: soo many gears. I took it to a mechanic in the end.

NO, i didnt open it at all, the only thing i did was check the torque on the bolts and change the ball bearings and the speed sensor to the new diff and that was it.

the first time we opened the tranny we were very careful on putting everything together and we did take a lil' time to study everything just in case. once you open them a few times its a walk in the park. :icon_surprised:

when taking it all apart, is it pretty much straightforward? like if you look at it can you just see that i need to take this off first then this etc or is it pretty tricky?

i wont lie to you, its pretty tricky, specially the 5th gear. you need a puller to get it out....remember that we did it because we have knowledge, and my friend is a trans specialist. if you dont have the tools or the understanding of it, dont get involved you can break something that in the end is going to be more expensive than the lsd. my 2 cents....

i figured as much. If i couldn't find someone to help me out with it, how much do you think (ball park) it would cost if i took my transmission to a trans place to put the lsd in?

here in puerto rico around $150-200, there in the states $300-500. i know its expensive, but remember that any shop that you take it to its there responsability, if something happens you are surely having a warranty, unlike us that we did it and if something breaks we would have to buy it.
