Best method to flush power steering fluid on a tC?
 

I changed my yukkie p/s fluid once by pulling one hose loose off the reservoir and draining into a cup, it was pretty messy, anyone have any better method, it needs a total flush again. :bow:

i did the same thing, maybe it worked a little better for me. Take it to a shop they should be able to do a power flush on it. I can't think of another way to do it. If you knew a way to suck it out as the car was runnng then you'd be golden.

I tried to suck it out with a turkey baster but the hose was too big on the baster and it could not get all the way into the tank, thus the hose had to come off the bottom of the tank....

yeah the hole is really small, some shops don't even have a hose small enough to do a flush on our cars. I was thinking that maybe a vacuum bleeder for brakes might work, but I'm not positive on that.

Anyways if you do find a way to get the fluid out what you want to do is start your car and let it idle.

Suck out as much fluid as possible, but be prepared to pour more in ASAP. You want to try to avoid making your pump wine.

Watch the fluid and when it starts getting dark again repeat.

Do this twice and top it off, get in your car and turn your wheel bank to bank 20 times 10 times each way.

Then repeat step one.

This should work pretty good. It's the same a shop would do just with out the suction machine, which is the major problem with doing this at home.

I hope this helps, and maybe more people could add or give other ideas.

Thanks, good to know, our car has 60k miles on it now and I just finished the auto trany flush this past weekend, which was a breeze, I already flushed the p/s once but it was just a drain the tank and fill which it needs a good flush and of course, always the engine oil @ 5k miles too. Other than that, brake pads are next.

there is no easy way to do it.........I changed out my resiviour out to the
Weapon R and had to just drain it outthe hose and then turn the car on and let it circulate out the hose into a pyrex dish till it got slow......

My plans for adding new fluid are about the same.........drain as much as I can and add more and drain again and add more and drain again and add more......since the fluid is cheap figure at worst I am out $9 to keep it clean every year.
