Is xB 1 towable?

I'm surprised this hasn't been covered. :eyebrow: My search yielded zero results.

Is the xB, generation 1 towable behind an RV, or does it require a dolly?

swartzautoman 11-30-2007 10:17 PM

i don't see why not, you might have to do something a little custom with the center grill.

the search ____es me off because people tittle the threads with things like " please help " or " check this out " or " question ". if there would say "Is xB 1 towable?" like you have it would be a lot easier to find stuff in the search.

Have you checked the manual?

UBOW 11-30-2007 11:26 PM

What, read instructions? Hey, I'm a man! :silly:

(time passes) :tap:

Okay, go out to my car and there is no manual for me to read. Wonder what happened to it?
So, what does it say?

BLAKBOX06 12-01-2007 01:09 AM

I install these setups for a living! :)
The manual Xb is flat towable. The automatic is not and unfortunatly the lube pumps to cure this can't be used on the xb. You could however use a tow dolly for the automatic, it is just a little awkward.

If you need any more info shoot me a PM. I have already set up 4 Xb's to tow and i can get you part numbers and such, as well as some pics of everything installed if you like.

WHEN MY FUEL SENDER WENT OUT THEY JUST PICKED IT UP BY THE BACK AND TOWED IT!

swartzautoman 12-01-2007 02:11 PM

this topic is about it being towed by an RV

dibbz 12-01-2007 02:33 PM

first of all is it a standard trans or automatic? if it is an auto you will need something that pumps the fluid through the trans while being towed( not sure wht its called) or just put the drive tires on a dolly...i have seen many first gen boxes behind rv's

BLAKBOX06 12-01-2007 03:59 PM

Unfortunatly the lube pumps that Don mentioned can't be used on the Xb transmission. I Called Remco ( the company that makes them) to see if they had been able to run them on the xb yet and they said that the tranny toyota uses for the Xb, and a few other cars, is the only automatic tranny that Toyota makes that isn't towable.

I also just took the time to check your signature, im a little slow LOL, and saw that you have an auto. So i guess that answers that Question. :)
Looks like it's gonna be a tow dolly.

Sorry it took me a few days to get back to you. For some reason the response notification didn't work and I didn't know anyone posted replies.

I really don't want to use a dolly, but a toy hauler could work. I may opt for a Smart car instead. I'm still a year away - I take time to plan things out.

Thanks everyone for all your input.
