Fuel filling issue
 

This is a problem i have has since i got my 2011 TC2 (second hand with 5.5K).
When i go to fill up, the pump auto shut off will click about 2.5 gallons short of full.
I have found this out the hard way with over filling 1-2 times.
Now - once the pump stops for the first time, if i fill up SUPER SLOW, it will take the rest of the 2.5 gallons with out clicking. Anything faster then only a minimal squeeze triggers the auto stop.

Any ideas why this happens? is this common?

Mine does it too. Not really the cars fault but the pump. If I use older pumps it does not happen, but the newer pumps have the self shut off set extremly sensitive.

Try different positions for the nozzle? My jeep used to shut off if I let it just hang on its own. If I picked up on it you coud hear a difference actually and wouldn't do it nearly as much. Might not help but it's worth a shot

take it in and get them to check the charcoal canister or the evap hose, i used to work at toyota and we seen these two items to be the culprate 99% of the time.

I think I have the same issue as you. Often times when I fill up the car, the gas pump trigger seems to stop thinking that the car has enough fuel when it obviously doesn't. I have to fit the hose in different ways to pump gas in. Is it possibly the angle of the car's hole that makes the pump leak then abruptly stop?

^ this. I've seen this work for me with a few cars.

I have this problem on my '11 xB. First 42 liters fill normally, then next 10 are drop by drop. Takes a long time to fill! There's an old 2009 thread on this site called Gas Fillup Problem. Same thing.

Does anybody NOT have this "feature"?

I have no problems filling up.

The tank has quite an irregular shape, so maybe there could remain some air pockets once the fuel level has reached the height of the filler tube connection to the tank. Then any further filling requires the head caused by repetively filling the filler tube. The tank's breather may be affected? Then the slow flowing head of fuel in the filler tube triggers the gas station's pump to cut off. Just a guess. May be inherent in the design.

Or maybe the dealer applied thick rust proofing gunk is constricting my tank's breather and vents? Just another guess...

It must be a different shape tank on your tC?

I still wonder if any 2011 xB's don't have this problem. Winter's coming! And I want to make fill ups quick!

The only filling problem I have is having to fill up too much. I think like someone mentioned that it's just caused by the pump. I have not had any issues thus far
