Beware Walmart FRAM Air Filters for xB

This filter simply does not seal correctly. The lip does not match up with the air box. It's close and will "work" but it's not really the same shape and size as the original oem.

I'd really like to know if anyone else has seen this problem?

Metro273 05-10-2008 04:43 PM

I'm glad you put this out there. This is exactly why I like to stick with OEM parts!

I bought one and had the same problem, thanks for reminding me that I need to go to the dealer and get an OEM one.

FRAM in general just sucks, especially their oil filters.

jct 05-12-2008 11:09 PM

fram aint what they used to been they are junk now-a-days :?

pollock3s 07-30-2008 03:37 AM

Same with Purolator from Advance Auto Parts. Did not fit exactly right.

Skuff_Box 07-30-2008 12:05 PM

OEM for the win!!!

DarkTari 07-30-2008 02:26 PM

I find AC Delco oil filter are very good. They rate high in testing against others.
I've used them on various other vehicles I've owned with no issues.......

K&N should work fine AND its better than OEM :P

A new genuine Toyota filter costs me $5.xx from a toyota dealership....No point in buying anything else...they're either cheap junk or costs more than the factory filter.

pollock3s 07-31-2008 02:29 AM

It cost you $5.00 ! ???? It cost me around $18.00 at the local Toyota dealer. What a deal you got. I wonder how you did that?

GammaTNT 07-31-2008 02:32 AM

i order a 10 toyota filter from TRDSPARKS.com for total of $35

$18 for a filter is way too much.

Nothing special...Just walked in and got one. Even threw in a new drain plug gasket. Dealer I used to go to charges $7.xx and no gasket. But damn $18 for a filter is just rediculous....Maybe give another dealership a try.

el_chapin 08-07-2008 03:40 PM

this is good to know

prescottn 08-13-2008 04:25 AM

uhhhhhhh this is confusing because the guy who started the article wrote oil filter in the subject line but was talking about an air filter not matching up to his air box.... Hmmmmm an oil filter isn't going to fit in your air box to begin with bro.

As for parts... get a K&N drop in filter (lasts a lifetime) and always go OEM on oil filters.

pollock3s 08-14-2008 03:45 AM

That's what I thought we were talking about as well. AIR FILTER.

shortbusxb 08-14-2008 03:50 AM

I stick with MOBILE 1 oil & filter. The filter itself is only $10.

Amen. And is it just me, or is it hard as hell to snap the lid shut with the Purolator filter?

...Buy 10 on E-BAY....

https://i20.ebayimg.com/04/i/001/0b/5f/2d24_1.JPG
Air and Oil filters can be had on E-BAY cheaply. 10 OEM (longer) oil filters for $30 + $10 shipping still comes out to $4 per OEM filter. Crush washers are available for $1 for ten of them. If you go to wally-world, you may get that price on a FRAM filter, the cheapest filter made, and the poorest quality.

I bought ten filters as I am doing my own oil changes. I bought 10 more because they will fit on my garage shelf and it looks cool to have filters stacked up to the celing.
Search E-BAY Motors for Scion XB oil filters..... or Scion ail filters..... or Scion Cabin Air Filters.
Hit this link for oil filters:
