Are they crazy? Plastic License Plate Screws

Uh...this is kinda weird to me.

I just popped my trunk and got out the plastic dealer plateholder for the rear of my car, and noticed it came with plastic screws.

Is this normal to use plastic screws? I would think the license plate would just fall off due to cracked screws. Maybe they are just for show...?

I supposed I could just go to the hardware store and get some metal ones... :/

mine came with metal ones.

damn...

well it's not like they are expensive

I have metal. Didn't even think they came in plastic O.o Strange..

Mine came with plastic too and they are still on. I have a 2006 xA so you know they've been doing it a while, anything to put more money in their pocket.

Oh, just so you know, if yours came with the front license plate frame already on, you might want to look at it. They had mine screwed in too far which I didn't notice for about a year after buying so when I took it off I found two dimples in my bumper from the plastic screws going past the plate and into the bumper.

at least they don't rust...

^agreed.

nylon/plastic bolt studs can be drilled out and treads tapped easily when bolt heads break off.

Plastic license plate screws suck.

Working at a dealership, I hate them. After a while, they still seize in the threads, and the head will twist right off when trying to extract them.

LOL!

They are made of Nylon and available since the 60's!

Yes, because of the rust issue. :silly:
