xB Coolant..
 

I was looking in the manual to find out what type of coolant to put in my xB. It told me i needed some kind of specially formulated coolant made by Toyota with some kind of special chemicals.
Does anyone know where to get this stuff and if i can just use some other type of coolant?

coolant is coolant to me. just make sure if your gonna add something different than what is already in the car, flush your system first

Dealership should have.

I bought it. It's a extended life coolant that they sell (pink stuff) and its used in Lexus
Also your not suppose to mix it with nothing else or you will ruin it.

I found it in a Toyota dealer since the Scion dealer didn't have it.

Those of us in the auto industry call it Toyota Red - don't mix coolants - use what is recommended. You should be able to pick it up at the local dealership

:rofl: If that were the case there would be no reason for all the different kinds would there? There is a reason for the red stuff but only Toyota knows what it is. :lalala:

Toyota Super Long Life PINK is the correct coolant. It only comes in premixed form and costs about $16/gallon at the dealership. I would drain the radiator only every five-year or 60k miles (whichever comes first). That should be more than enough and eliminates any need for a flush.

Not all coolants are the same. Conventional green coolants relied upon a heavy dose of either silicates or phosphates for protection, thus requiring a service every two to three years (30k miles) in order to prevent gelling and to replenish the depleted silicates or phosphates. GM’s DexCool type coolant relied upon Organic Acid only for protection, and can go five-years (150k miles) before a service as it lacks any sacrificial components. Toyota/Ford/Honda combine an organic acid technology with a low-dose of either phosphates (Honda/Toyota) or silicates (Ford) to provide a long-life coolant that provides faster protection upon installation, as organic acid alone requires a short period of time to build up a layer of protection. The usage of phosphates or silicates also has additional benefits. Nice part is that the low dosage of silicates and the organic acid together allows for a service life of at least five-years.

Toyota Long Life and Super Long Life are two completely different products. MY2003 and newer vehicles use the Super Long Life Coolant. The Scions all use Super Long Life PINK, NOT Long Life RED.
