For reasons I will be unveiling later, I had to do an engine swap on my baby.
Hey Mike, I found out what happened. Here are some pics of the old engine and new toy going in. Old engine with 67,000 miles Attachment 97189 Attachment 97190 New 08' Engine going in Attachment 97191 Attachment 97192 Quaife LSD thanks to Autotech! Heck of a deal. Attachment 97193 Attachment 97194 Attachment 97195 Install kit from TRDsparks. I think the bearings are the only necessary parts. Attachment 97196 Attachment 97197 Old Differential Attachment 97198 Later |
Sweet, moar pics as you move on with project. How sweet of a deal exactly did you get on the LSD? BTW, that block will be fine with a smidgeon of JB Weld.

Ouch, at least you ll be getting the new motor in. You have any plans on building the new motor?

Update
I'll try posting as I go, cuz if not I will never do a clear DIY. Useless speedo gear, used cuz was already purchased. Attachment 97167 Attachment 97168 Attachment 97169 Attachment 97170 Tools/technique used to press bearings to LSD. I started by holding it with my legs and hammering them to place with a rubber mallet. Go around a couple of times until it's there safe. Once that's done follow pics below and keep hitting carefully with rubber mallet. It helps to have someone hold the differential against the 2x4, btw the piping used is 2.5in ID. It was from one of my intercooler pipes back in the day. Attachment 97171 Attachment 97172 Attachment 97173 |
now that is a thing of beauty...lol
|
does the gear fit around it snug?
|
Could you have used the old speedo gear if you had not purchased a new one?
|
Good luck Carlos! I'm glad to see everything is working out for you! That hole you made in your block is pretty nice by the way, haha. You guys down there in Houston keep me inspired.

I'm jealous, you guys can still bbq down there? All I see outside is snow and slush. Its depressingly cold outside for that stuff. haha. How bout I drive down there sometime this summer and drop my car off at your house for some "mods" since my car is too slow to go down the track. :D

Wow that LSD looks so funny next to the pen. It so weird seeing how small it acually is

Here's some more: To get out the driver side axle seal and lsd bearing race, tap out with anything that might help. The install kit comes with this seal anyways, so if you break it that would be no problem. One thing to note is, once pressing back the new seal and you get it flush with the housing, go in an extra 1/8 inch. Or better, take note of how far in the old one was. Attachment 97149 Attachment 97150 Attachment 97151 To get the passenger side axle combo I used a sears pry bar, reason being was that there's a flimsy plastic oil blocker between the oil seal and lsd bearing race. Attachment 97152 Attachment 97153 Attachment 97154 Cleaning up the housing with throttle body cleaner lol, only thing I had. Attachment 97155 Old and new pass side lsd bearing races, notice the wear? Attachment 97156 Technique used for both lsd bearing races. Attachment 97157 the 2.5 in pipe came out very handy, make sure to make the seal flush with the housing Attachment 97158 Finally got the LSD assembled, do follow the maintenance repair manual. It says to bake the differential gear ring to 230F for a reason. I tried installing it cool and it was kind of though. I put it in the oven at 250F for about 15 min and when I put it back together it was as loose as a hooker's... It does work, but do get it back together and tight down quick cuz it will start shrinking fast. Remember 78 ft/lb and red thread sealant. Attachment 97159 be back tomorrow with more :-) |
Be sure to use OEM toyota Red FIPG. This will retian oem look on tranny. And also will give you best seal possible!
Nice. If there is no speedo gear isint that an issue lol? |
