Knocking noise from engine bay?
 

I was at lunch today for about an hour, my car was running the whole time, i get back to work and when i get parked i think i hear something knocking, i turned off the radio and heater and sure enough there was a knocking noise, i pushed on the gas pedal lightly and it seemed to knock faster. I then shut it off, checked the oil, color and level looked good. I went into work for about a half hour, then came back out to the car started it up, and it's as quite as can be. Has anyone else experienced this?

sounds like it needs an oil change, miles dont mean much if the car runs at idle and in-town a lot.

Yea i had a simiar sound i think, happened once with my mom in the car going down the free way, as soon as we exited it went away ha ha

my brothers older carolla does this. after driving half hour it will start knocking and shut off, but when it cools off it sounds normal again? :ponder:

is it a knock or ticking sound? ticking is normal, its the valves. if its an actual knock theres something severely wrong! how many miles do you have?

I just had the oil changed two months ago with 5w30 , It was a knocking noise, it wasn't the valves or injectors tapping. Thing i was thinking about, if it was serious like a rod or whatever, it shouldnt just quit knocking. I drove home last nite about 20 miles and back to work this morning with no noise, strange. i have 42,000 miles on it.

my dad once had a platic bag and a rock up under his axle ...just saying I would jack it up and see whats to see.

Cheap gas perhaps?

'04 xB here, 35K. I have a knocking noise too. It sounds like something is banging against something else in the engine bay. It only happens when my car is in drive with my foot on the brake. It also happens only in the winter. It disappears as soon as the temperature goes above 40F.

I got the same knock going on now..like something is banging against the body under there...only happens if the motor is shaking like at idle or low revs pulling away sometimes..weird..

have you guys checked your engine mounts, is the rubber worn?

I had the same problem 2 of my three motor mounts were shot. Replaced the defective parts and bam problem gone!

My motor stated making a knocking noise def not rod knock sound like something in the engine bay tapping. I also noticed when pulling away if I don’t give it enough gas when letting the clutch out I’ll her something tap sounds like it’s up on the firewall it will only do it till RPM get up to about 850-900

i too am wondering if it’s my motor mounts
