snow driving
 

So i've yet to drive in the snow yet, but i was wondering how the tC handles in the snow with it being front wheel drive and all.
Also if you have your car lowered with different rims and tires on please say too, because i'm goign to be getting the TRD springs soon probably and some new wheels next year.

I live in michigan, so snow is a fairly common thing ^_^

Since you're in Michigan, you'll want a good set of snow tires for the winter (Blizzaks are top notch and worth the $$). FWD is actually a good thing in the snow and the tC does pretty well. I've never had any problems even on all season tires (versus just snow tires).

No issues being lowered either. Though I would suggest keep your OEM wheels for the winter and for snow tires if you get something else... will make it easier to swap things from season to season.

alright thanks. I came from driving a boat of a 1995 dodge intrepid with a heavy V6 keeping the front wheels from slipping pretty well. Even with pretty bald tires i didn't have a problem driving in the snow haha

Well, what these guys haven't said, is that the stock tires are god awful in the snow. The crappy potenza's are summer tires that slide all over the damn place in the snow. I was very close to buying new tires last winter when mine were just 5 months old. If you have the money to spend, some all-season tires would be a wise investment.

Make sure to leave your parking brake on.

well i actually bought mine used, so i have brand new kumho's in the front and yokohama's in the rear, i'm pretty sure they're more street tires than all season though hah

The stock Yokohamas sucked in the snow. I got some Blizzaks, and its a world of difference. Being lowered sometimes is an inconvenience (turns the car into a snow plow), but mostly its fine.

i always spin in the now and drift to one side going up a hill. my friend had to push me.

yeah i think these ppl are talking about when plows and other cars already drove on the road but when your the frist one the car sucks in the snow

i find it strange that we are talking about driving in snow in june, but whatever! LOL

I drove up from LA to Vancouver, BC over the winter break when Oregon and the rest of the west coast states/provinces had record snowfall. Being on S-Techs wasn't too great whenever I pulled into cities, but on the highways and stuff, my stock tires were fine. In the cities though, I was snowplowing for the neighbors. It exceeded my expectations for driving in the snow, considering I had stockies on.

i have stockies for now for the summer getting new rims hopefully! but i rock just "cheap" sport tuning 15inch wrapped in Good Year Ultra Grip Ice Performance winter tires. got em off tirerack as a package deal and they were amazing. better then blizzaks i think!!!

haha yeah my old car made it through a winter up at michigan tech, where snow was a big deal haha it even made i t up the steepest hill there covered in snow, so if this car just handles decently in the snow i'm more than happy with it.

Well I've been driving in the Lovely NY snow for 4 years now with the tC. No major problems. Just take it slow. Yes, invest is good snow tires cause you will need them...Other than that, it's really driver skill that helps and driver error that make you....well, you know. Either way, the tC is no worse or better than another front wheel drive car. Just be careful.

and the reasoning i asked in june about snow is... well for one i live in michigan so it could actually snow tomorrow if it wants to, and i wanted to know if i'd need snow tires or not.

I've got a manual and had to feather every launch until I swtiched to winter tires. I had to do the same even in the rain after 40k miles.

did you have to feather it even with a second gear start?

in my old car (automatic) i'd just hit the gas and the heavy engine kept the tires grabbing all the time so this is going to be an experience for me! ha

2nd gear starts were ok. I didn't do it as much since I was in the habit of starting in 1st.
