Help with aligning timing marks on Cams

How exactly do you align the timing marks on the camshaft and the caps? Should the marks be aligned at the same time the cam is bolted down? Or can you turn the camshaft after the cams are bolted down? Any info will help

ive always aligned cams while they are still in.. just simply turn em till they are lined and then when crank in TDC u slip on belt/chain

youll notice there is 3 marks on the exhaust cam sprocket... one dot has ex by it (exhaust), one dot has IN (intake), then there is a hash mark between them. you want to align the hash mark with the arrow thats located on the first cap for that cam.

on the intake cam you will see a small dot on the face of the cam sprocket, look just above it and you will see a long hash mark. align that hash mark with the arrow on the first cap for that cam.

all this is assuming your crank is set to TDC.

align the gold links of chain (yellow) on these marks. If you dont have the crank set to TDC you can easily find TDC by doing the above and aligning the crank with the third yellow link. there will be a dot on the small sprockets on the crank. third yellow link goes there.

any other questions?

alot easier than I thought I did this today - Although the oil chain tensioner bolt broke before I could even put it in! Know anywhere I can get a replacement?
