Installed my VRD upper+lower grill [Pics]
 

I got my black VRD mesh grill a few days ago and decided to it put it on today. Install was pretty easy, didn't even have to take the front bumper off!

I tried to take some pictures to show the fitment for anyone thinking about purchasing these.

I'm really happy with the purchase (got it for $150 shipped by using a coupon code). It achieves what I want, which is no front emblem, and the "appearance" of no grill at all.

Let me know what you think. I'll snap some pictures tomorrow under the sun to hopefully show a bit more detail.

I love the grills! I just put in my top Figure black powder grill but I think I might just get the VRDs instead! I really like how they fit so well. And I'm also going for just a blank grill look and your's looks hot!

I'm not that impressed with the fitment overall of the Figure.

Did you drill holes for the VRDs?

From what I have seen on previous posts, the VRD's are OEM fitment IMO. I am going white satin finish Figure grills for my BSP.

Figure grilles look way better than the vrd grilles IMO, but the vrd fogs sure look good! cant wait till payday so I can get mine!

Stock '08.

When you get yours take a pic with the VRD on top and stock lower grill. I think it might look cool.

deezy: I didn't have to do any drilling for the VRD. They use the stock/oem clips.

NICE! Looks so much cleaner, I want to pick that up today ... how easy was the install? What tools were required?

flint_08: Thanks for the positive feedback! The install was pretty damn easy. I needed a stubby/short Phillips and flathead screwdriver, a needle nose pliers, a 10mm socket wrench, and a large flathead screwdriver.

I used the short phillips screwdriver to remove the 7 screws from the back of the top grill. Then I used a short flathead to assist in releasing the ~13 clips that hold the top grill in place. When I was doing this I noticed that a few of the clips had been melted to form a seal by the factory. I was able to remove the excess plastic by carefully tearing it off with the needlenose pliers. At this point the grill will pop inward with a moderate amount of force. Although the melted "clips" were now useless, there was more than enough other clips to hold the new top VRD grill very securely.

With the bottom grill, I read a tip on SL about how you can pop the OEM grill inward by pushing firmly forward on each of the filled in half-honeycomb sections around the outside of the grill. After all the clips were released and the old grill removed, the new bottom grill can slide in at an angle. I aligned it and pulled it forward by putting my fingers through the holes. I heard a few clip sounds but to make sure it was in place I took off the plastic under engine trays using the 10mm socket and large flathead screwdriver in order to get my hand up behind the bottom grill to push hard against it and make sure all the clips were engaged as well as visually confirmed that it was firmly clipped in place.

Anyway, I know that's a lot of text, but it was an easy install. I guess that's why VRD didn't include any instructions whatsoever. :idea:

Funny, I noticed the melted bumper clips too. I wondered what the heck had happened. A couple of the clips which had melted were the ones which I was supposed to drill for the Figure grille install. I just ended up having to improvise.
