What is there to do around Memphis, TN. What other cities are nearby. Driving distances. What a good place to live near Memphis, TN in TN. Hows the weather during the four seasons. What areas should one stay out of, etc. I may move there and would like some information.

germantown
Bartlet
those are a few of the towns /cities that are righ on the outskirts of memphis. there now but maye 10 to 15 mins from memphis.

People always complain about there being nothing to do in Memphis. If you know anything about Memphis, you will find that there is quite a bit to do here. I am going to answer some of your questions that Chip missed:

Weather- Winter is pretty mild. If it gets to 32 degrees, its cold.
Summer is hot as hell. Humidity is ridiculous. Every other season is pretty mild.

I would stay out of the mid town area and stay in either Germantown, Cordova, or Collierville. There are lots of places to go to party though. You can go to downtown Memphis and go to Beale street, go to a Grizzlies game (even though they suck this year), and in the summer you can go the Redbirds game. The Redbirds are the Cardinals triple A team but they have a stadium as nice if not nicer than most of the major league teams. If you do not want to do that, you have Tunica about 45 minutes away. Tunica has several casinos and some nice golf courses. If you like golf, we have the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in AL. It would take you about 2 hours to get to the start of the trail, but you have about 15 top notch courses in reach once you get there. Nashville is only a couple hours away also. Oxford is probably the closest college party town. That is where Ole Miss is and it is about an hour away. I hope this helps you and if you have any other questions let me know. I have lived here in Memphis for 22 years so I know my way around pretty good.

yea thomas is right definately try to stay in the outlying areas. Also memphis is pretty centrely located and close to alot of stuff. nashville is aprox 3 hours away, little rock ark is the same. st, louis is a few more hours away to. Like thomas said the weather here is pretty mild in teh winter. I work outside so I should know. just be forwarned if the weatherman says there is a possibility of maybe a flurry of snow. now he can follow taht statement by it wo't even stick and theres no way it will stick. Well you better run to the grocery and stock up bvefore every little old lady buys uyp every single loaf of bread available lol.

summer is hot and has alot of humidity spring the temp is perfect but it rains a little more. fall well taht and winter kinda run together here. you never know when fall ends and winter begins since the winters are so mild. Really the only months it gets really cold are Jan and feb those are the only two months that you might have a few really cold days but thatsa bout it.

why are you thinking of moving ot memphis?

yea it's confusing to someone who is not from here. ok you have DOwntown which sarts at the river and then goes into midtown. midtown is jsut what it sounds like midtown. it's mid city. Mid town is a good place to live if your more of a free spritUmm i mean it's an older part of town and they have turned alot of older houses into small apartments.

Downtown they are converting wherehouses into apartments. they will cost ya to live there but they are usually very nice.

Outlying areas are the suburbs of memphis. likeoakland is to san fran or berkley or walnut creek. (sorry thats the only part of ca i know) . you have cites like bartlet, cordova , germantown, and collierville. All places have afordable living . Apartments townhouses and afordable houses as well. with new homes going up all the time.

What is thee to do in mejmphis you ask. well there is all sorts of stuff to do.

we have some good bars and night clubs scattered around the city.YOU have historical Beal street where youhave soem good bars and night clubs but it's home to bb kings "home of the blues" . MEmphis is well known for there BBQ. theres stuff like bowling or roller skating for the kids. You have a nba team and a baleball team here. Theres all sorts of things to do in memphis and tenn alone.

You can travel to nashville and see teh grand ole opry where many contry music artists got there start .

you cna travel to Knoxville (which is the east side of the state) and see the University of tn.

in other states there is quite a bit to do. In Mississippi which is right below memphis the city of southhaven and horn lake you have convient shopping areas (plus cheaper sales tax ). In tunica county (city of robinsvile) MS you have the casinos. thatas about an hour south from memphis.

going west you have arkansas which has a dog track right across teh river in west memphis . Ark has naturla hot springs in hot springs. it also offers camping in the mountains.

Going northish you have missouri which has st. louis and the arch. youhave the cardnials baseball team. you have the budwiser brewery.

alabama is also near tn

Also Georgia is not too far and hosts the NOPI car show in atlanta ever year.

you can ven get to the beanh within a full days drive.

hope this helps some more.
