Default Passenger Seat Seatbelt/Airbag Sensor??

wife has 14 frs, great little car, i drive it occasionally commuting and i carry a backpack with my laptop, steno pads, snacks, a bottle of water ect and i always put it in the passenger seat with no issue.. the car has a seat sensor to pick up a person sitting in it, well this bag is prob 20lbs alot of the time and it never triggers the sensor, ive had it go off with a bunch of groceries in the seat but thats understandable.. well the past 3 times ive driven it i put my bag in the seat and it triggers, then i put it in trunk next time and had a bottled water and my phone in the seat and it goes off, then next just had my phone and it triggers it.. a phone is OUNCES of weight, why is this going off like this now? anyone else have a sensor go bad or have this issue? its annoying and need to correct it. please advise if you have experienced this!! thanks alot
