Default A better Bluetooth Mic location...

I have had people tell me that they can't understand a work I'm saying when speaking on my Bluetooth connection in the iQ.

They have no trouble understanding me when the car isn't moving but once I'm up to speed (above 50 mph) they say it sounds like I'm breaking up and they can't make out what I'm telling them.

I spoke to a buddy of mine who is a professional audio expert and he told me the stock location for the Bluetooth mic is a poor one at best. He told me that road and engine noise is concentrated in the area where the dealer mounted the mic.

Here you can see the stock location in front of the gauges...

Gene told me that the area in the upper left corner of the windshield has much less road noise so I moved my mic to that location and now it works awesome! Granted, it's still Bluetooth in a car so it's not as clear as talking directly into the phone but it's clear enough that people don't keep asking me to repeat myself.

Here is the new location...

If you decide to move yours it's a rather simple job.

Remove the mic from the dash with a plastic putty knife.

Remove the side piece of the dash that meets the driver door.

Remove the upper dash piece that houses the gauge cluster.

There is enough slack wire to move the mic but you may have to remove the head unit to reach it.

Thread the mic back through the dash to the A pillar and tuck the wire behind the A pillar towards the head liner.

Use 3M molding tape to attach the mic to the windshield.

Place the dash pieces back and enjoy the better quality of your Bluetooth mic.

I've had quite the opposite effect. My wife says she can hear me better on the car audio Bluetooth, than when using the phone normally. I just bought her a Toyota Camry 2014 as well and her mic in her car is just horrible.

As an update to this thread...I now have the mic sitting on top of the steering column directly in front of the gauges. I no longer have complaints from anyone about the sound quality.
