Custom machined Emblems, billet aluminum
Hey all,
OK, so I have access to a CNC machine shop, (I own it), and have been trying to think of some cool stuff to make for my Tc. Here are some CAD/CAM shots of new badges I am making....
IDK, biohazrd... looks pretty cool.
I like Silverstein, so i made this from one of their album covers...
Here is a link to this one being machined (simulation) http://www.cncfusion.com/images/SCIO..._38%281%29.swf
The Original photo...
Anybody got some cool ideas? I will post pics of the actual parts as soon i machine them.
Maybe replace the radio flip-door, or center caps on the stock rims...
Think people! I need ideas...
cheers!

Thanks for the input guys. I test ran the Silverstein engraving on a flat peice of scrap aluminum. looks ok once I colored in the engraving with black, then buffed with some scotch bright.
hatch logo is held on with just D S sticky tape right? That should be easy. Anyone got particular team logo or other such in mind?
I was planning to hold the grill badge on with a screw. It means drilling a hole in the very center of the grill, but no biggie since it will be covered. There will be at least one tapped hole in new badge, used to hold it down while engraving.
cheers,

i'd be VERY interested if you start doing centercaps in aluminum, i replaced the centercaps on my falkens with transformers autobot emblems but would love to have something more solid than what is basically a thick sticker on the plastic base . if you're interested i can get you the dimensions for them, just pm me. i'd be interested in a autobot hood emblem for my xD as well. not sure if my hood badge is the exact same size as the tC's, let me know if youd be interested in fabricating something up for a reasonable $$.

Also, send me the dimensions of your xD front/rear emblems and how they are attached. Is there a slight curve on the back of the front emblem, to match the hood, or is it just flat?
As for pricing, I think I can do...
Custom art items, (see the Silverstein example...)
- Emblems : $30 to $35 ea depending on complexity
- Center caps : $20 to $25 ea
- Emblems : $20 to $25 ea
- Center caps $10 -$15 ea
I am also looking at picking up an anodizing station. Not sure what that would run...
One note if you're looking at something custom, if you can hand trace it with paper, scan it, and send it to me I can engrave it. Just don't get carried away with the fine details or the lines blur together.
If the pricing sounds good, I can set up a Scion page on our web site, http://www.cncfusion.com for ordering stuff, that way you would be protected by PayPal.
cheers all,
PS: I had my gall bladder removed this morning, so it will be a couple days before I can machine the 1st set of emblems.

I can take pictures with the measurements on the centercaps for the tc wheels if they are the same not sure how to gold them on I'll get that when I get home in a couple hours and post it up

$50 for 4 centercaps ( no reason to sell individually ) seems reasonable. Much more is hard to wrap my mind around but pics needed. Like I said a Superman logo would be awesome and if you do it, I get a free set because it was my idea!
EDIT: Oops, just saw where you wrote $10-15 each. That is fair. Thanks for having reasonable prices!
I guess you'll make them from aluminum. How would that pop into the stock centercap place? I assume the centercaps "pop" in but I dont see aluminum flexing to allow that.

I still have my original rims in storage, so i'll drop by and grab a center cap for measurements. Not too worried about holding the caps in place, there are several ways to do it. One easy way is to make a lip on the cap, so it has to be inserted with the wheel off, but cant pull all the way through.
Super man logo will be a snap for center caps.
I was thinking someone might want say, autobot caps on the from rims, and decepticon cap on the rear... or something like that, for ea. prices
The Ironman arc logo on an air diversion panel also looks doable. I just ordered one for testing (plus I don't have one , yet).
I'll try to post some pics of what the caps with superman S's will look like tomorrow, and a hatch/arc-reactor badge. I'll do up a Superman badge too.
cheers

Thanks!
I finished the superman badge, and an Arc reactor badge. There's not a lot of detail in that photo to go on, and i couldn't find any close ups on the web, so this is the closest i could get. I made it two ways, one is engraved, like what would be on a diversion panel, the other has pockets in it, for a badge.
I have a center cap in hand, and should finish those up today. Hopefully I will be able to machine so aluminum this weekend.
cheers,
