Default Surf/Roof Racks

Anyways, I am planning to buy a tC...

I used to a sedan so that is easy to put my straps on for my car to put surf boards on top.. but the tC doesn't have enough windows and doesn't look like it's long enough for me to put my straps on. Meaning, I might have to resort to installing a "real" roof rack.

I don't know what roof racks are out there and what works and doesn't. Any advice will help really... I don't know where to look or where to go except REI, but that is expensive.

Anyone has dealt with this already?

I was looking to get one for my boards as well, look into yakima... But I can easily fit 3 boards inside the car itself and leave room for 3 people to ride...

i can fit my 7'9 if i put theback seat down and feed it through the hatch. fits perfect! i can fit my 6'8 on top of that too, as well as my skimboard :] with room for another person.

What?? How do you fit three people with the boards? I can only imagine one. I usually have one person to go with me. I think we got a 8' board and a 7' one. So I guess that will work. I might forefit the money and get the rail if I need to.

I've have used Surf Blocks (http://www.amazon.com/Block-Surf-Sin...7337466&sr=8-1) for my old car and works wonders. (: Too bad there isn't a 4 door tC but I probably won't buy it.

The biggest board I take is a 6'10" so I fold down the right backseat and feed the boards through the middle standing them on the rails. 3 passengers and 3 boards it works out great

Umm.. how bad does the board ruin the interior? Sand.. I know.. anything else? the surf board rubs on the seats and ruins it? Umm..

I'm getting a new tC and maybe I should just invest in a rack already...

I've been looking at http://scionpartspeople.com/searchpr...able+Roof+Rack but I don't know... anyone as experiences with this or any other roof rack?

It does get a bit of sand but we always rinse off in the showers afterwards to get most of it off... And as for the seats I lay a towel between the driver and passenger seat, one on the interior floor, and one on the rear seat so the only thing the boards actually rub/touch are the towels

Invest in board sleeves. I never put any of my boards in my car unless I had socks for them. And its not so much the sand as it is the wax and salt. Sand will vacuum right up. All it takes is one time for you to put it wax side down on a cloth headrest and oh boy.

As for the racks I debated that for a while until I just decided that I could fit a bunch inside the car on the passenger side with all the seats down. And another buddy behind me. There's a lot of room in there front to back.

PS - I'm sure you all know this since we're all surfers here, whenever stacking boards w/o sleeves always stack them wax side to wax side.

Sighs... sleeves are useless when am I planning to change board after board (I'm so indecisive). I am probably going to start buying a water proof seat and cover the damn thing. I'll see if my surf block fits the tC first, and if I don't want to get my interior potentially mess up, I'm forfeiting and getting a roof rack. Hopefully my sunroof still opens.

wax is my biggest worry. once i left my board in the car durin the summer, the day wax had dripped onto the seats and panels. huge mess, but found this neat trick to clean it up: lay paper towel on the spot, and press a heated iron on top. the wax heats the paper towel sucks it right up!
