Default Motor swap 05 tc, 07 motor??

I'm new to this forum but there seems like a lot of good info! I've read of some people taking the new 2az from 07+ and fitting it into an 05-06. But no where did I get the exact differences and if it will work for sure. I can get an 07 motor for like 500 bucks so I don't wanna miss out if I can use that motor, my current motor seems to have cracked a ring, it builds way to much crankcase pressure and pushes oil up the return line for the turbo. Please any help or insight is greatly appreciated!! 😃

Main differences are the 07+ has a 9.8:1 compression ratio, a slightly more aggressive intake cam profile, 6500 rpm red line, and piston oil squirters. Wikipedia can be your friend.

I ment as far as swapping motors go, what will need to be swapped over. Is it even doable?

This is a waste of time. All that work for a miniscule difference in engines. It's pointless really.

Completely doable, they are basically the same engine. All the changes are internal. Might need to swap the ECU but I'm not sure.

Thank you for your positive input! Much appreciated! The reason it's not pointless is because like I said I can get a motor for 500 instead of the cheapest other one I could find was 1600 with a cracked timing cover.

I'd like to know what's involved in the swap as well. The 05-06 engine has an head gasket issue that was a problem in the Camry. If mine ever goes, it may be worth paying a little more for a used 07+ engine swap. Replacing the head gasket doesn't fix the engine design flaw, so it can break again.

The engine should just drop in and work without replacing anything other than the air intake since the 05-06 07-10 have different MAF sensors. As for the compression, it should fine up just fine. If the ECU doe need to be replaced since its different, youll have to replace the whole engine harness too.

The belt is a different part number for 05-06 , 07-10 yet all the accessories are the same, like alternator, water pump, etc so I thought maybe they locate the pulleys closer togeather and use a different belt. But if I just need a different belt, nd just swap the harness over then that would be fine by me. I was gonna build my current motor while that ones in there, so I can take my time.

The 07+ has drive by wire throttle, and IIRC the 05/06 has a cable throttle, doesn't it? For that reason alone you want to stick with your old ECU, throttle, and intake manifold. Whether it all bolts up or couldn't tell you though.

The 05 is drive by wire. I'm pretty sure every 2azfe from 02 when they came out was drive by wire. Cuz I've never seen one with a cable

My bad, I thought only the 07+ cars were DBW.

Disregard previous comment then

Default 07 with 05 engine

So in order to use an engine from an 05 in a 07 i would have to change MAF? is that all?
