OK, my question is do we by law really need the Cat that's on our midpipe cuz us tCs have
a Cat on the Headers and I'm pretty sure that the Header Cat will reduce emissions

Depends on where you live... in CA, you probably need it for emissions testing (I don't know for sure, just guessing since CA is a PITA for testing). Anywhere else, it would depend on what kind of inspection they're doing.

But technically, it's there for a reason - if our car really didn't need it, it wouldn't be there. I don't think you could rely on just the header one to reduce your emissions sufficiently - that's why there are two.

Then again, if someone wants to remove it, they're probably going to remove it whether it's 'legal' or not.

yes but i keep thinking its only there because its designed to be a LOW emissions car not a just passing emissions car...cuz those like 1989 camrys we all see driving around with black smog coming out pass emissions and they have 1 cat..

Yes. Just keep it. Or replace it with a high flow cat. The pressure drop through a catalytic converter is about 2 psi, which is nothing you'd ever notice. Just stay green man.

Well, in all fairness, there's a big difference between an 89 Camry and an 05+ tC. I know it's an exaggeration but still... And I also believe that only cars made after a certain year go through the emissions testing.

well no that i think about it why should i care im gonna get a catback and only have the header cat....non on the midpipe wanna kno why, well new cars dont get tested with the sniffer they use the OBD scanner and well catbacks dont throw a CEl

I took mine off, it doesnt throw a cel or anything. Our tc barely produce any emissions so I dont think there will be a problem with that.

Ya, there's no sensor AFTER the 2nd cat, so removing it doesn't really do anything to your engine directly except change the flow/pressure of your exhaust - which may or may not have any long term effects. Don't think so though. I think if I did anything in that area, I'd just replace it with a highflow one.

Removing the second cat will add minimal (if any at all) power. Likely nothing ever noticeable except in your head. Most of the constriction for the tC's exhaust is well before that section of pipe in the first cat/header and the spipe. That is... unless you have already replaced the header/spipe to free the flow of the exhaust even further to the second cat, you won't get much of anything out of it.

well the one thing i noticed about replacing the mid-pipe is the weight the stock mid-pipe...man that thing is heavy as hell!!! i live in cali so i'm pretty sure the 2nd cat is needed for emissions so i screwed up for selling my oem mid pipe...hopefully i won't get caught and when it does come for testing (5 years from now..i have an 09) then i'll just pay extra to have them pass me..yup some smog places will pass you if you pay a little extra depending on who you know

If you have a friendly neigborhood shop that is willing to sell you a section of exhaust pipe can you just cut it out and get some of the lap joint clamps from Summit Racing? I cut out my Cat on my Ram and bought a 7 foot section of 3" tubing flared at one end to slip fit onto my 8-4-2-1 collector. I saved the section with the Cat on it and have a SS band clamp to restore my exhaust. Cat delete plus hypertech programming plus Jacobs ignition turned my 5.9 into a Hemi eater.

P.S. the truck is LAF, (loud as f---).

One thing I will say is that you prolly dont need a second cat, but it is a federal offense anywhere to remove or modify emission control systems. I think.....

The car wont throw a code the 2nd o2 sensor is before the second cat. the second cat is there to make the tc a Ulev (ultra low emissions) vehicle. you wont fail emissions without the cat it will just make your car louder.

na man i have aftermarket headers and i dpnt have that cat and i have absolutly no problem passing emissions so u dont really need it no
