I had a Oil change recently on my 07 tc. Its a automatic. They said I need to get a transmisson fluid flush & quoted a price that was over $200 . Seriously? Thats seems crazy! They said its because of the type that it is. Is this the normal going rate or are they just scamming me??

of course there gonna say that,thats how they make there money,but your paying for labor not the actually fluid,pretty easy to do it yourself

Sounds about right. How many miles on your stock fluid? And although I always say this, I keep saying it. This is a very easy do-it-yourself job. If you take a crack at it, it'll save you the $$$.

For the Scion Xb 1st Gen, we require special Trans Fluid as I was told by a Aamco transmission place, which they do not carry + was advise to go to the Dealer to get the correct fluid. 99.9 % of the Auto parts stores do not carry the special trans fluid for our cars.

At a NJ Scion dealer, they charge me couple of year ago $70 for a Trans fluid change, which is basically a drain + refill of new fluid.

My wife got a trans fluid change for her xA at one of those quick oil lube place. Which I had to get flushed out, cause they used a generic equivelant fluid, which to me is a big No..... I asked the guy how is they have the fluid + Aamco doesn't even carry it nor would they recommed to put in a synthetic . So I went to the dealer to correct this problem with a Trans flush.

The Trans fluid flush was about $200 at a dealer. Reason they use 2x or 3x the amount of Trans fluid with a machine to totally flush your system to ensure all old trans fluid has been drained + to ensure non contamination your new trans fluid.

I have about 71,000. I bought car 2 years ago. They made it sound like it was so expensive due to a different process that had to be done for some reason. I have had a flush on other cars I have had & didnt like it since it would leak after due to the flush pressure. Doing it myself would definitely be a more cost effective route.

amazon.com has toyota oem type IV transmission fluid. when its in stock on amazon's website, it's under $5 each and has free supersaver shipping for orders over $25. you need about 8 quarts anyway so you can do the flush yourself for about $40

The 2007 scion tC automatic transmission fluid is Toyota WS.... NOT Toyota IV.

The main difference is the viscosity. The Toyota WS (world standard is what I believe is what it stands for) is thinner than Toyota IV. The only fluid right now that you can use other than Toyota WS would be amsoil.

sorry about the mistake! Toyota IV is non synthetic and i believe Toyota WS is synthetic

What is a fair labor charge?

I'm all for doing the simple stuff myself, but the dealer is NOT evil.
(at least if you take the time to find a dealer you trust)

I just got my oil changed. i asked how much the tranny fluid flush was >$125.00

when i did it on the 05, it used type T-IV. i drained 3.5 quarts out. i put in 4 quarts through the dipstick tube, unplugged the line going into the transmission from the radiator cooler. i turned the car on and as it came out i poured more in. i shifted through the gears too. i used about 8 quarts. 8x$5=$40 for the fluid. WS costs about $8 a quart.
