No seriously, I would have some concern if I ever saw 1500 degree's under load. Or anytime for that matter on a piston engine.
That's what I'm trying to figure out....if the gauge is wrong or what. Does anyone else have one on their tC?

I just installed my egt gauge.

Idel is about 600

Normal driving 1000-1200

The highest I've seen has been 1400 on my n/a engine

Yeah I'd take a look at it. But it could just be a faulty sensor. My Evo ran pretty hot at 23psi, but I had around those temps where the EGT was tapped into the manifold, not the S-pipe. S-pipe readings shouldn't be up that high,

Well, last night I looked at the probe and I think I found the problem because it reads different. When I installed the probe, I pushed it all the way. I read the instructions and it said 2/3 of the way in. I redid it and ran the car.

Idle was between 600 and 700 (650 in gear)

normal driving between 1050 and 1250 and 1400 was the max as I ran it wot.....on our special test track.

See it's not so bad to read the instructions, I always get made fun of for it, but I do it anyways.

Those numbers look way better.

Yeah....but now I'm on probation in the men's club for reading the instructions. If they catch me asking for directions...I'm OUT.

*LOL* instructions..? What are instructions? I guess I should have read mine hahaha. I stuck her about 90% in and was reading the exact same temps as you. Had me super worried last night!

I'm on my second probe already. First one got taken out by a curb......Ooops. But if you ever need a replacement, check out ebay. I got one for $35.00, sure beats the $185.00 it cost for a Defi replacement. They don't last forever, all it is standard thermocouple which will burn out after time, so don't waste money on the gauge brand replacement.

1500 under load in ridiculous that thing is about to blow man. I have a Defi Gauge just crusin around it get to about 650-700c which is about 1250-1300f man I would be crappin my pants if that thing hits anywhere over 1350. So are you telling me this is normal for TC turbo?? I not really got to test it under load yet because the turbo installaition is new and its overboosting a little.

Unfortunately I don't have before numbers to compare against but keep in mind my car runs nowhere near as much timing as it did stock. I think stock max advance is in the 23-25 degrees range and now max advance is like 14-17 degrees.
How much boost are you running?

Man I am still having really high egt problems... If I put the car in cruise at 75-80mph I peg the egt to 1600. I cannot figure this out. It has to be the gauge or thermocouple. Spark plugs show no sign of this kind of heat, engine runs perfect, no signs of detonation, no check engine lights etc... This is totally wacko. Any idea's..?

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I'm about to poo bricks, right now.
I might have stuck the probe in too deep, like the OP had done, but still ...
I have no clue what recommended EGT's I should be watching for.
I only installed the gauges after I put in the turbo, so
I have no frame of reference. So far, at idle,
I get 800 F, give or take 250 degrees.
Cruising at 45, I get around maybe 1,000 F.
Cruising on the freeway @ 80, I get 1,200-1,300, and
at WOT, the thing is pegged at 1,500.
I know I shouldn't let it get to 1,500, and I usually don't.
I just don't know what's going on with my engine.
I read the instructions online HERE.
It doesn't say anything about how far to put the probe in.
I tapped directly next to cylinder 4.
It seemed to be the easiest spot to run wires since its near the
oil pressure and o2 sensor harnesses.
Oh !!! And since my gauge only goes up to 1,500 degress,
there's no way to tell if I'm reaching "piston frying temperatures"
HELP !!!
