I go by when my oil starts to change color. so I could be any where from 1K to 8K depending on how hard I drive my car. but with the tC I'm getting around 5k 5.5K

Its not like changing your oil is that expensive. YOu have to think of it relativally. Your not going to hurt your car by doing it more often, but you could be just fine doing it less often. Theoretically you could change your oil every 10k miles and it could be ok. It just depends on how much you want to baby your car. I do mine every 3000. As for the difference between 3k and 5k it doesn't matter. Ford has even gone up to 7k I believe, but you know what? Guess what they have changed about your engine between 10 years ago and now? Not much. Power may have changed, but the basics of an engine are fundimentally the same. I say, the sooner the better, but if your strapped for cash or lazy then go ahead and hold off

His response was, "Well since we live in Utah, we are subject to more extreme conditions so we have you come in every 3000 miles because of that."

Is this a bogus answer or is this right? I'm pretty skeptical so I take it in about every 4k miles. Anyway, just want your opinions.
Funny I live in Florida and the dealer said the same @ 5k it seems all of America is extreme ▄︻̷̿┻̿═━一

Manufacturer recommends 5k miles, but has the same engine running 0W-20 at 10k miles. Advise using 5k interval for fossil, 7.5k interval for synthetic.
