Back on topic, I use Redline 5w30, and I love it. Its a little more, but its good for my S/C.

Lighten up. It was meant as a joke (which I thought was funny).

I hope no one is dumb enough to do that tho.

Strange because according to my 07 oil cap and my manual it says 5w-20

2006 owners manual says SAE 5W-30 the 2007 owners manual says SAE 5W-20 or 0W-20 recommended oil viscosity.

Not false information per se. 5w-30 was the factory fill for the 05 and 06. Mid-06 MY Toyota issued a bulletin recommending 5w-20 for the '06 MY (however, not 05 MY), and 5w-20 was the factory fill starting 07 MY.

05= 5w-30
06= 5w-20 (5w-30 listed in manual and on oil cap)
07 up= 5w-20 or 0w-20 in colder weather

And for the record, I use 5w-30 in my 06 and have no reason to change since Toyota didn't issue a full recall or directly contact owners regarding 5w-20, nor did they issue me a new oil cap had it been an absolute necessity.

^^ yup... a TSB (Toyota Service Bulletin) was put out Jan-Feb or so of 2007 stating that 2006 and above vehicles should be running..

5w20.. or 0w20 (recommended more for winter use)
it's not false info... more just uninformed.

but seriously people... read your owner's manual. i'm done with this thread.

I recently added oil to my high mileage 07 scion Tc (160k). I accidentally bought 5w50. Would this be a problem? I normally get it changed with 5w30?

Yes that's way too thick, since your engine was the one that could use 5w-20. Please change that 5w50 out as soon as possible with 5w30 or 5w20.. I didn't even know they made it that thick.. interesting..
