Default Boosted tire choice

Sooo i have a boosted auto tc on 7-8 psi and my traction SUCKS - i have some stock yokes on the front i picked up dirt cheap and they have liek 40% tread life left. I ran a 14.8 at the track at 97mph - i was only able to give about 30-50% throttle until i got good into second gear at 50mph otherwise - wheel spin I one time tried to build boost against the tq converter off the line and it build 4 psi - unfortunately all it did was spin the tires through 2nd - but i did run a 15.2 at 100 mph Im looking for a decent street tire that will do well on the strip - with my current tires if i go w0t ANYWHERE in first gear and in some places in second itll spin the tires bad. Ive been thinking about possibly going with the bfg t/a drag radial whcih is dot street legal in 225/45/17 size - btw i do have stock rims, but im worried about the treadlife on these if i use them daily - is there a good street tire out there thatll do well on the strip that im missing? Thanks guys!

You want just summer?

Bridgestone Potenza RE-11
Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Spec

Those are the two most popular street tires in autox for grip. But they're summer only. You will absolutely need a separate tire for winter.

get lsd also.

i'm not sure about you but the right side always has the wheel spin, unless i have a passenger. its not that often that i can get both tires.

Well short of any drag tires... those two are the hottest street tires for autox right now. Previously the RE-01R was king (which I have now) but they were discontinued and replaced with the RE-11.

Would a 205/40R17 work on our stock rim - M/T makes an attractive ET Street radial in that size im kinda likin

^ Yes, that'll be fine for a 7" wheel like the stock tC. Of course it's smaller overall diameter will throw the speedometer off a bit, but also effectively changes the gearing to make it slightly quicker.

My only worry at this point - even though i know bfg and m/t both advertise these drag radials for street use - how will the treadware be?? I cant afford to replace tires every 2 months lol

If you baby them and never go to the track they can last quite a while, but then, what would be the point of buying them?

But seriously, what's the treadwear rating of the one's you're looking at? That'll give you an idea of how long they might last...but it'll still depend on how you use them.

Azenis 615s and you are running a lower front tire PSI right?? You should also note that extreme grip for drag racing doesn't work well with high mileage daily driver.

You might be better off getting another 2 rims to run some Nitto 555r or 615s up front with what ever in the back at the strip and then swapping back to regular daily driver fronts after the track.

The falken look good and they are really reasonable in case i wear through a set quickly - how long u think they would last if running daily - and yes i run lower psi in front tires on the strip

Just did a litle bit of research and those falkens may be a winner - alot of guys with sti's (alot more power than im making) say they are a wonderful street/strip tire and by far the best street tire to take to the track. Also the price is amazing - found them for $105 ea!

I ran the 615s last year in autox... and the only complaint I have is they will get greasy when they get hot. Anyone using them in autox has always kept a water sprayer nearby between runs to cool them down. They are still an excellent tire for the money, don't get me wrong... just have to get used to them.

i wonder why dunlop starspec z1 is rated A on traction only instead on AA while it has a great review on autox.. maybe it takes into account wet and snow traction? i wonder if they stick well too on straight line..

Yeah I had the same issue with the OG Azenis I had but at the drag strip I don't see that being a huge problem. When I use to run my Civic at the local Speedworld drag strip getting 5 runs or more in a 5 hour test and tune night was a great night for use. So that leave plenty of time for any tire to cool way down.

No tire will supply enough traction at only 205 wide. Run a 245 or 255, and if that doesn't work, LSD.
