Default To those with or without subwoofers

a few weeks ago while washing my car, i noticed that the paint is flaking on both side of the hatch fascia. I have a 1200watt sub system installed and worried that they'll blame it on the subs and not fix it under warranty. im curious if anyone else has had this issue and whether they have subs or not?

I can't say 100% for sure, nor can I comment on if they'll honor the warranty, but seeing this makes me think that yes, it's highly probable that it was caused by the sub. I had a massive setup on my '05 xA (two 12"subs in a ported box almost completely pressed against the back hatch; came close to not being able to shut the hatch) and I had the same issue happening. I know it wasn't a tC, but the same thing happen in the same spots......

Are you able to take out the subs and hide the wiring? My experience with stealerships is that they will find anything and everything to use as an excuse not to fix something.

+1 to what Crow said, I would just try to hide the wiring and remove the sub if you're worried. If you are unable to do this that finisher comes out pretty easy - might be a good time to pick up some touch-up paint and just fix it yourself.

i was hoping to find more people with this issue so far i've only found one other owner with this issue. He doesn't have a subwoofer installed i also did some research and found out there is a protector between the garnish and hatch so i didn't see a reason to remove the sub before taking it to dealer. They didn't even mention that the sub was the issue just that something came in contact with the paint. Because of my work hours i wasn't able to talk to the service writer responsible for my car, and he doesn't feel like returning my calls. Also had my car in to have the passenger seat frame replaced at the same time which was a week of headaches just to get it back to find out they forgot to recalibrate the occupant sensor or damaged it.

think i'll raise a little hell if that doesn't work i'll have my local body shop take care of it they always give me reasonable prices and the paint turns out perfect. they repainted my C-pillar after my car was egged for less than $300 and have done other work on my previous cars.
