Lightbulb DIY: Toyota Prius Rear Emblem for xA

Here is an alternative to the IST emblem, that (IST) is a perfect fit replacement, and cost just as much as a brand new Toyota Prius emblem will run you off ebay (and the same price as the dealership as it turns out).

So why on earth would you want direct fit???

Another part of this, is it will only really suit some colors. White, Blue, Silver maybe, Black I think this would look sick on unless you have a theme of red for accents going on. So you'll have to gauge if it'll look good with your color code and accents of the vehicle

Here is a guide on how to lightly modify the Toyota Prius Rear emblem to fit the 2005-2006 USDM Scion xA, and 2003-2008 Toyota IST

Things you will need:

1. Super Glue

2. Super Glue Remover

This stuff

3. Cutters (I used a heavier duty wire clipper)

4. Safety Glasses

5. 3M Double Sided Automotive Tape

Step 1:

Lay the emblem face down on the bubble wrap it came in, or a towel. Something to keep it from being scratched.

This emblem is in 3 parts

You need to push all these tabs in, and push the emblem off the thick back plate.

Then you will have the blue and black underside accent, and the top side 'T' emblem.

The rear of the silver 'T' emblem you want to take your cutters and cut the tabs off them as close as you can. You don't have them as to your liking, you can file them down with a small file.

Step 2:

Apply glue around the rims of the back side of the T emblem, then apply the blue/black backing to it.

If you get glue on anything, the remover will make it dissapear, and will not damage the film layre or the silver top emblem.

Step 3:

Leave it to dry for 30 minutes. Unless you have Super Glue that doesn't take up to an hour to cure, the time will vary for your results.

When you return, with the face of the emblem facing you, you can push the blue part a bit to make sure it's completely held in place.

If any sides seem to push away, you can add more glue in places you see fit.

If you have some leak out onto the blue, and you see white on it, don't fear.

Put your super glue remover on a bit of toilet paper, and wipe it off. You'll never even know it was there.

Step 4:

Once your backing is completely attached to the emblem, you can now figure out your mounting. You *could* glue it to the car but don't do that. There are a lot of reasons why. Super Glue after it's sat for a long time, it's harder for the super glue remover to work. Super glue over time will screw the paint.

Second, what if you want to remove it and replace it in the future. Gluing it is going to make that REALLY annoying to do. Or say your emblem gets stolen. You will no longer have a flat surface to easily attach a new one (or old one).

With 3M tape, you get the old adhesive off, just as you did when you originally took your emblem off.

I used this:

Then laying in strips across the rear, flipping it over, and cutting around with a utilitie knife to where no edges stick out.

And done, you should not be able to see anything over the edges. A bit of the red paper is fine, that gets pulled off anyway.

Step 5:

Put it on your carrrrrrrrrrr!
