No way, dude. You're stuck. Trade in for an '06 if you want it sooo bad.

Yes, way! I did it - it works - and now I'm short 20,000 miles on my odometer!

Default 2006 Gauge Cluster in an 04/05 xA?

Has anyone done this? I really like the look of the '06 faces, but mostly the Speedo needle - as far as I can tell it's lit on the '06, and not on the earlier ones. Can anyone confirm that as well?

I was looking at this too. I'm sure its an easy thing to do. I hate the 05 gauges, because the tach is black and the speedo is white. WTF?

I can only shrug that the whole speedo needle lighting up thing... I don't know.

But I'd be interested if anyone can get this done. I was under the impression that this couldn't be done because the mileage info is stored on the PCB.

There is a dealer procedure to set the odometer.

It's an electronic component. It can fail or be damaged. Therefore, there's a way to replace it. Propably some ungodly number of off-on-press the button, turn the dial thing...

Hey ____ - can I see a photo of your LED vents? This is something I've thought about over & over, but I can't see how to get it to come out right...

Yeah, if you're checking out my siggy, the LEDs in the vents have been long removed. But I'll see what I can do to dig up some old pictures. The deal's the same with me... I couldn't get them exactly how I wanted them, so I just pulled them out.

I picked up an 06 speedo head on ebay pulled off a few parts and retrofited them to my 05 works perfect, miles correct an all. When I tried putting the 06 unit in, the mialiage was wrong, so it must be stored in a chip on the cluster. But it's very easy to put the faces and lighted needles from an 06 on an 05. The light defuser on the 06 speed side must also be moved over. 30 minutes total with just a couple of screw drivers.

I like the 06 better - looks more polished.

Much easier on the eye's too.

Take care

Kevin
Did you move a chip over? Or did you take the PCB and put it into the new cluster?

I'd upgrade if someone made a kit to do so.

Thanks for the tip, hackenfort - that's exactly what I was hoping to hear... now if I can still get a hold of one for a decent price

I tried to big up some pictures, but I couldn't find (misplaced) those pictures. All I can say is that it's pretty tricky getting the LEDs to work out right. You have to control which way the LED is pointed as well as how high up the vent it is.

*reviving a thread from 7 years ago but might still be useful to the xA lovers

Just did this tonight, it's not very hard to put the 06 gauge faces into the 05 cluster, the only real problems is taking out the light defuser on the 05 cluster still doesnt light up the needle of the 06 like it should (but it is still sort-of lit up). and also its really easy to get finger prints on the gauge faces continuously re-calibrating them until you get them good enough but pretty hard to get the finger prints back off without leaving streaks.

The 06 cluster was actually 13k less miles on it, I should have just stuck it in as-is and said to hell with it but it would drive me crazy knowing that it wasn't correct

Here is the before and after since no one has put any yet
