Default VVTi Solenoid replacement?

When I was changing the alternator, I broke off the plastic tip of a sensor thingy just behind the alternator bolted to the cylinder head. I'm told it is the solenoid that activates the VVTi system.

There is only one bolt on the outside that holds it to the head. What else do I need to do to change it? I'm thinking that there might be more to it than just unbolting it and bolting on a new one.

Nope, just unbolt, pull out and swap a new unit. Make sure the new unit has the rubber o-rings to seal it and you're good.

Default Two piece assembly?

Two piece assembly on my 2006. Solenoid separate. Internal parts aren’t wanting to just slide out.

No.....these aren't two piece assemblies. If yours is in two pieces, it's broken.

The solenoid must've broken off the valve mechanism. Lots of car manufacturers have similar type valves like Toyota VVTi valves. Hyundai, Nissan, Honda, etc.....when the solenoid breaks off the valve mechanism, I may (sometimes) twist a screw into the hole in the valve mechanism and pull it out. Or maybe, (if I'm lucky) use a magnet to pull it out. .
