Engine Swap
Anyone think of swapping the 1.5L for the 1.8L found in the Toyota Matrix's. Since TRD makes a supercharger for that and it puts out 130hp stock. With the SC it would put out 166hp, I believe. Weight to Power would give you 14lbs/hp. Seems like it would be more worth it and it would still give your engine bay a stock look with the TRD SC.
I'm going to be buying an xA around Christmas. I was deciding between this and the Matrix, but it seems that I can't get financed for a Matrix because of my credit and the price on the vehicle. So, I'm going with the Scion. I just had a couple questions also on it...
1) Does the car really feel that solid when driven?
2) Does it feel cheap when going fast? (like a civic does when over 80mph)
3) How much HP will putting on the headers get you? (the stock headers look like they're flat and restricting a LOT of air flow, I kinda figured it would really get you that 8-12hp that all headers claim)
This is probably a stupid question, but I haven't messed with FI in a while. SC goes on intake side, correct?
I used to have a GSX and I found that turbos where a mess once something goes wrong. I heard that SC's are just cleaner and easier to maintain.
Thanks guys.

If you are looking for power, then get something else
Scion doesn't provide power. OEM is 108hp and with Cold Air Intake, it could go up to 118hp. Swapping engine seems to me not wise. You have to worry about brakes and tranny as well. If you really want to drive inexpensive powerful car, Civic R or Sentra R would be better. or better yet, used Matrix? BTY, Scion is pretty solid for its price.

1) Yes.
2)No.
3)DC sports is making 5-6 WHP with their headers. and DC usually makes the best
headers.
Yes supercharger on that side.
YOU HAD A GSX AND WEREN'T HAPPY?!??! i used to (actually still have) a 2g FWD!! It has a 50trim td06h turbo, etc etc etc but anyways... Power wise turbos the easiest way to make power. Any kind of F/I you add is going to force you to keep up on maintainance. And what do you mean by "SCs are cleaner" ? My turbo was always clean. =) And anything will get messy when anything goes wrong. Just the nature of our hobby.

i had a 95 gsx, with the happy face bumper. i had the engine completely rebuilt, bored, je pistons with higher compression, shotpeened rods, ect... it was fast as hell off the line, awd really helps the launch. just on the freeway the thing dragged, the fastest i ever went in it was 143, that was before i had anything done to it.
the turbo is on the exhaust side, it just looks like it gets dirty, lol, iunno. i heard from somewhere SC was just easier maintenance, but harder on the engine because of constant pressure or something. i'm still learning about F/I. just knew about turbos because of my GSX and from forced performance and maybe ONE thing from Turbo City. Never go there, they're not the brightest when you ask them questions.

Sorry to hear about your DSM. I also had the smile face bumper. If you look in the classified section you'll find my car somewhere there.
