Default Exhausts - Highway Drone

So I'm split between a Strup axle back and the DC axle back. They're relatively close in price and they're visually pretty similar.
I've heard mixed reviews about the drone at highway speeds from people running the Strup, is the DC better? Is the drone really not as bad as I've read? Also, have people other than the RS2 owners had trouble with the welds on their DC?

Thanks in advance.

Edit - I've decided to make this a poll...

i recomend the DC. It's built very well, sounds great, and fits great.

I suspect that any aftermarket exhaust will drone at some rpm or another. My TRD, for example, does so at 3000 rpm, 60mph in 5th gear. It's apparently tuned to that rpm, to fatten up the torque curve at that point, kinda like being "on the pipe" with a racing 2 stroke engine...

If I go a little faster or a little slower, the drone goes away... different mufflers will obviously be tuned to different rpm.... with the Strup apparently being one of the noisier aftermarket mufflers, same with the DC...

I'd be concerned with the quality of DC. Seems to be a lot of dissatisfied people with their products in general. Any exhaust would drone more than the stock. Strup is supposedly pretty loud so I'd go with something else if you think it'll be a problem.

I can't say anything about the DC Sport. The Strup I had on for less than 24 hours drove me insane. I have a 5 Spd and the drone and just loudness of the muffler drove me insane. Maybe I am just getting old and cant handle the noise like I could when I was younger but man I ended up with a Greddy EVO2 and I will never look back. Just my 2cents

it sounds like an industrial strength vacuum in the cabin the drone is difficult to get used to, but like someone said i think all the exhausts drone at some point in the rpm range. even the stock drones a tiny bit.

i have an auto and i had the strup and now the trd they both drone at the exact same speeds from about 65-80mph before 65 is fine after 80 sounds like a tornadao but it wasnt bothersome to me i just hate the droning.

I agree. I have the TRD exhaust. It subtle and nice around town, but long highway trips were annoying. I recommend if you're going to switch to aftermarket, definitely get some sound deadning in the trunk lid and cargo area. It made a HUGE difference for me.
Now sound deadning materials are a whole other topic... check out the DIY in the tech for sound deadning. It was perfect help.

aftermarket DC is fine on my xA. it drones but honestly if you're that worried about it you can do two things IMO:

1. don't buy an exhaust
2. put sound deadening material inside the hatch area under your spare and cargo area to help deaden the droning.

I have the Greddy EVO2 and I don't have any problems with drone at all. I drive the freeway to work for 30 miles each way and I never hear droning. I had the Strup first and it droned at all RPM's IMO.

I think I'm going to go with the Strup with the silencer for longer trips. I have some sound deadening in the hatch and I plan on laying more when it warms up. Thanks for your input.

aftermarket stuff usually doesnt come out till a little while after the car is available. i remember reading that scion said it would release a full line of available options such as the first xb but the good stuff comes from the aftermarket companies which wont be available till later on.

I have the DC Sports axle back and I love it. It sounds really mean. I bought it 2nd hand and haven't had any issues with its quality whatsoever (my tip hasn't fallen off yet)

The drone is only annoying when you have a headache or are trying to listen to music...or trying to talk on your cell. If you can feather the throttle just right and not mash the pedal the entire time then you can prevent a little bit of the nosie.

It is no where near as bad as an open Cherry Bomb muffler on a 4 banger S-10

i think the only DC exhausts that had problems were the ones on the rs xA. i heard from someone before, that it may have been that DC had to make so many at once for the rs that the quality wasn't as good as the one's that are sold as aftermarket pieces. meaning, too many welds...so little time.

On the other side of the coin... anyone have a Tanabe Medalion?
I just heard it and I really like the sound. I don't need people hearing me a mile away, but I'm looking for a deep sound.

You should also give a listen to the Greddy EVO2. It is nice and deep without being overpowering.
