Oil filter - OEM VS OEM

Oil filter - OEM VS OEM
Just changed my oil for the first time yesterday. I ordered a case of OEM Toyota filters from TRD Sparks and had them on hand. The filter that came on the car said made in Japan on it, the ones from TRD Sparks said made in Thailand on them. The made in Japan filter looked to be built a little better than the other ones, it was also a little taller than the ones made in Thailand.
The original Made in Japan filter was a Denso 90915-10003
The made in Thailand filter is also a Denso with numbers 90915-YZZF2
My local Toyota dealer also sells the made in Thailand filters not the made in Japan ones. Here's some pics of the filters side by side. I went ahead and cut the old one apart and I cut apart a new one also so I could see the differences.
Here are the two filters side by side. The original made in Japan filter is on the Left.
The japan filter just looks better built, don't know if it really means anything yet?
Here they are both cut apart, again the Japan filter is on the left. The Japan filter seems to be made up of tightly packed cotton material or ?. The filter made in Thailand is made of pleated paper.
Another side by side shot - Japan on left
Closeup of filter material - Japan on left
Japan bypass valve assy.
Thailand bypass valve assy. - Spring loaded with a rubber seal. Acutally pretty well made.

Thought I would share the pics. I found it pretty interesting that we arn't getting the made in Japan filters from our dealers, or at least my dealer.

The original filter that comes on the engines will be different than the regular replacement. Why I dont really know but its the same with the GMs that I work on. I noticed the same thing when I ordered my case of filters from a Toyota dealership. As long as its a Toyota filter it should be fine.

old filter vs new filter. toyota constantly updates their filters. The part number changes every few months sometimes. ------02's became -----a2's then finally became ----f3's oh and theres an -----f2 as well but thats the shorter one i think....
