Intake noise

Intake noise
I have a question about intake noise, and more specifically the YDR intake. Do intakes or short rams make extra noise all the time? Or is it above certain RPM's? Or is it only under hard accelerations when I presume you are drawing in more air? I'm sure this is a very basic question but I've never been in a car with an intake.
