For a few seconds to let the idle settle... But it never really gets that cold in SoCal.
I also turn the key to "ON" for a few seconds before turning it over. Helps the ECU "get ready"

There have been threads before on this subject.........I drive away slowly until the light goes out and then go for it. I was taught it was better to let the oil flow rather than to idle.
