Project $9 Vinyl Cargo cover.

Project $9 Vinyl Cargo cover.
Now that I have a speaker box in the back of the box, I wanted to put a cover on top, but didn't want to pay $55 + tax for one. Here's what I did. Expect Pics w/a DIY write up in the near future.
I first started with a half yard of black vinyl I got at Joann Fabrics. It's priced at 6.99 or so a yard. I then trimmed into 49X13. The piece itself is 54 wide. I bought 4 hooks at the store as well. Poked some holes in the side to hold the hooks and I'm done. The underside of the cover is white, which looks kinda funny, so I bought another half yard of the same vinyl and trimmed it down. Still trying to think of a way to attach the 2 without sowing them together. I'll let you guys know when i figure it out. Pics will be up soon. So none of those "This thread is worthless without pics" because you all know what it looks like. :D
I'm also thinking of putting a metal ring where the hooks are connected to the fabric that way if there is any push or pull, it won't rip.
Scion xB Cargo Cover $55.00
Half yard of 54"wide vinyl $ 3.49
Hooks $ 0.99

I'd say use magic stitch aka fabric glue .. or they also have this stuff that comes in a sheet form that when yu use an iron it activates and makes the fabric stick together ... I'd suggest putting gromets in the four courners ... doesn't take much time and will make your cover last longer ... I know they come in black
damn I'm made too many props for concerts and theatre if I know this stuff..... LoL
my .02
edit :
those are gromets

To make this thing rigid, check out a hardware store and look at 1/8" hard pressboard. Around $2 for all you need. You can glue the material to it on top and bottom for a stiff cover. Another option is to take the wire from those flexible sunscreens for the windshield, and piece together a frame that stretches the center tight. :?:
