Default XM Radio

Hey I am looking to put in an aftermarket XM Pioneer Tuner & Ant. I was told that I needed some kind of adapter to make the tuner plug directly into the back of our stock radio. Is this true. Has anyone else put in an aftermarket XM Radio? Thanks!

We did the Delphi XM set up with the stock radio, but had it installed at circuit city (since I still have not found the stereo I want). Here's what we ended up with:

Delphi receiver
Delphi Vehicle Adaptor Kit * plugs into your cassette player for music access
Delphi FM Modulator * Replaces the cassette adaptor and the power adaptor enabling you to run the system through your radio (this is what I needed since I have stock radio)

Hope that helps.

I was planning on putting either the sony or delphi unit in my ride this week. Is XM radio really crystal clear. I drive by this area to school in the hills and get no reception so no matter where I am, except for driving thru long tunnels and stuff, the sound will be perfect right. I just put in a monitor with tv tuner and the radio goes thru that antenna so it sux now. Any suggestions on what could get a better signal or just XM radio?

XM radio is awesome. pioneer IP bus is the best way to go, but you can use the FM modulator. it still sound way better than FM. you can get the pioneer reciever for under $100 and it's just $10 a month. it's totally worth it. you will never listen to FM again. i never will.

My XM satellite came installed and I love it!!! I recently went Rosarito Mex and it still worked great out there. It really comes in handy on long drives/commutes.

For the Delphi unit, that's all you need right, just the little square silver unit plus the car kit? Then what's the little boxes that like alpine and pioneer make that looks like wires just plug into them. Is that just a tuner for a head unit that is xm ready or do you need that also for the Delphi?

you actually need the receiver, the modulator, and the car kit. Three units, not two.
