Rust found on some Scion xB doors
#62
Milwaukee, WI checking in. Driver's-side door has a bit of this rust in the same corner as everyone elses. This is very disappointing. Like Tomas said, what's this going to look like in five years? I bought this car for the long-haul, if you will.
2005 PW xB w/16,700 miles; purchased in July 2005.
I will be going to the dealer abou this.
Just out of curiosity, what would be the fix? A new door? Some cauk of some sort? Sand and repaint?
I'm wondering if this is a design flaw.

Nashville...I only have 1500 miles on my TCM '06 xB. I have washed it about 4 or 5 times, and it'd been through days and days of rainy weather. So far no signs of rust at the joint welds or anywhere else on the inside of the doors. My welds look a lot neater than the one pictured.
What is this tape talked about here? The black trim around my windows seems to be made out of metal. Thanks,
Matt

'05 TCM, slight discoloration/rust at the 45 degree joint, driver and passenger doors. Tape stops before the point in question.
I'm also interested in how to do a good repair. The warranty seems designed to avoid paying for this, so if someone with body experience could post a detailed DIY fix, I'd appreciate it. The metal forming the window frame is bent so that there is a hollow bead running along it--hopefully water is not settling in there?

Good News....
So far, I'm the first one to report to the dealer about this rust problem at my area. The dealer took pictures of it and will work on my car, though they schedule me an appointment on Wednesday next week. According to the dealer, my rust problem is covered under my existing warranty, so the work they'll be doing will be at no charge!! Hope they will provide me a loaner while my box will be at the shop. Cough.. cough... 2007 Camry as a loaner

BTW, My box is about 16 months old. Also came with a rust pulse inhibator "Pro-coat". Rust were found at the same location as the pics posted earlier. Also found a little rust just below the pillar. So far only the front doors (both) have this problem. The dealer is also checking my rust inhibator for any defects as well, though I higlhy doubt that is the problem. Will let you guys know how the dealer will fix this as soon as I get my car schedule in on Wednesday.
