Default squeaky belt problem help please!

First of all I want to say thanks for any input I receive, but here is my issue. I just recently got a 2006 scion xb from my boyfriends parents. It had sat up for 2 years prior to me receiving this car. It currently has 160,000 miles. I have replaced all ignition coils, put new tires on it, and replaced the main belt afterit broke on me in town. But now my issue is it squeaks only when its cold outside, while idling and until I get up over 15mph if I continue to let it squeak and not let off the gas until it stops.

Thanks for the input just wasn't sure if it was that or if the alternator was going out. I'm new to the "scion life" and new to not having a mechanic on hand at all times to check things for me. Would it be OK if I drove it for a week or two until I am able to get to my mechanic an hr away?

yes if you can live with that squeal for that time frame... just don't screw up the VVT-i solenoid that sits above the alternator

My sons XB had a squeaky belt after we replaced it with one from autozone, the original did well but was starting to fray.

He bought one of those krikit tension measuring devices, which is a bit tricky to use, but it was showing us that we needed to put a lot more tension on the belt.

Eventually we had to ditch the autozone belt for a better belt as it would not hold the tension. Got one from rockauto - I think it was a goodyear gatorback belt. which seems to holding the tension.

So we concur with JCT's comment that you need to pull the belt up really tight... and that is hard to do and there are not many safe levering places.
