How often has it happened to you? Describe it... is it smoke? or a mist? does it smell sweet?

I am also a mechanic, but don't hold that against me. Sounds like a seal leaking freon intermittently. OBTW my understanding of these systems is that they use the a/c to dehumidify the air in defog & defog mix modes even with the temp set to hot. Too new not to make the dealer note it. Even if they don't find the problem right away, you have to let them know to CYA.

So I went to the dealer and mentioned the "issue" as reported in my first post... One of the mechanics said that that was a natural occurance and it happens when the humidity is at a certain point. He was saying if it's too humid outside, this may occur again but he said a couple of times that it was not a problem - he actually said that it happens on other toyotas and not just scions... I apologize that i didn't get exactly word-for-word regarding what this is and how it starts, but he said he has seen many scions, mostly TCs, that have come in saying the same thing.

Since it's only happened twice in 8 months, I'm not going to worry about it. Thanks to everyone that gave me input though.

Odd that it also happened in the depths of a New York City winter.

Just wanted to add myself to the list of people this has happened too. It was hot out, don't remember if it was humid. It looked as though I had a bunch of dust comming out of my vents. No smell. But it didn't seem to look like vapor... but then again, I don't think I see vapor comming from my vents every day.

Whatever it was, it scared the hell out of me for a minute.

Be glad. It just means your AC is making very cold air.
