For those that have installed an OEM spoiler, are there any tips you can offer? The dealer wanted nearly $300 to install and I think 3 hours is a bit steep!

Drilling into the car does not scare me but just looking for any "by the ways" that the instruction sheet does not cover.

I got my template from a very respected forum member but, without any implications to him, I had a beeotch of a time getting the spoiler's bolts to match the drilled hoes (I paid extra for spec'd metric bits) the first time without excess spoilier arching and (my perceived?) gaps between spoiler's supplied/affixed 3M tape and hatch surface. Maybe due to zis owner's German engineer's (exact detail) perception but I ended up stripping/re-applying fresh 3M tape everywhere. So maybe I didn't completely appreciate the supposed $300 savings but, as opposed to letting dealership techs/professionals do it personally unsupervised, I am still heppy vif my rezults...
Only advice I can offer is maybe buy/pay the $20-30 Toyota template fee to avoid what I bill equivically as only 1/2 hour of any doubt/delay/aggravation... And triple confirm the exact spec'd dimensions between RHS and LHS drill holes prior to drilling the murphs..

Just finished installing it about an hour ago. I'm actually happy I didn't pay the dealer $300 although if I didn't have the correct tools it could be worth it to some. I think it looks good but I'm going to the dealer to "compare" my work.

The only thing that was dicey was the torque of 50 in.lb. My torque wrench was recently calibrated and I was concerned that I'd twist the studs off but it clicked when it should. I waited about half an hour and double checked the torque. I figured the tapes and sponge gromments were going relax a bit and they did. Had to retorque all four spots. I'll check again tomorrow.

Thanks for all the tips and advice. I'll post some pics once I figure out how. I'm not very adept at some things!!

The template's a ~$20 Toyota extra... Don't start drilling best guess holes.

I have the genuine Toyota templet. I can pdf it. I am ____ed i had to buy it from Toyota for $25 so I will give it out free also if they have it done at the dealership, because you cant see under the spoiler they how do you know they wont hack it up like they did to mine? I replaced my rear with carbon fiber. i took off the spoiler and OMG the holes were massive. possibly they didnt even use the mount kit which i bought which was only the templet. so yeah ill try and scan it in soon. ill keep u posted.
