Default Exhaust idea!

I know all of you 2nd gen owners know about only having 1 reverse lite... Why not just get rid of it and put single exhaust out of it... it'll be clean and it wont scrape.

That works fine if you swap to Rumion taillights that have the reverse lights built into them.
It would probably look really good too.

but there will be problems, one, is you'll have to route the exhaust pipe all the way to the other side of the car, then, you have to insulate the tailpipe so it doesn't melt the bumper, and you will also have NO BACKUP INDICATOR!

See what i was thinking when i was looking at the new xb was that theres only one reverse light... Thats why I would figure something cool to do with it... Expesially if somebody has a buddy who will mold another hole on the other side of the bumper so it'll be like dual exhaust you know what i mean? I thought that would be clean. I don't know how youd insulate the hole without putting metal in it... Because if your exhaust moves it would make a nasty sound... But hey it'd be worth a try. I just think it would be sooooo clean looking.

Not a problem... 3" tip sticking through the hole will have a 1/2" of clearance all around. Mounted to a hanger connecting to the frame just above the hole behind the bumper should keep it from moving so that the bumper is safe. When I have the extra $$ for Rumion tail lights and a new exhaust system, that's my plan.

Have fun with a melted bumper . Honestly I think it would look weird.

Why not just order a replacement reverse light from toyota, cut a hole in the other side of the bumper, mount the other light, and splice the signal from the original reverse light. Hey presto...2 reverse lights.

Some one else has thought of this idea for the xb2. Personally i like the idea but you would need to put a plastic or carbon fiber guard around the outlet. Unless u want your toaster to have a toasted bumper. Im waiting for HKS to come out with a axle back system for the 2gen myself. Got to love Hi-power...

Wouldnt look as good as you make it sounded unless you were able to acheive the molded look the stock light has with the bumper... but that would be nice!

Or you could go the t2b concept route and add a hole on the passenger side and route the exhaust there, keeping the single reverse light on the driver's side...

I picked up a stock axle back exhaust on ebay for about $29 thinking this would be a cheap way to get a dual exhaust setup (either real or just for appearance's sake.) My thoughts were to hang it on the driver's side to make a dual exhaust. Only problem is I am not sure how to actually get this to work. Any ideas on how to hook this up?
If all else fails I'll hold onto the exhaust until mine needs replaced.

If you need ideas for dual exhaust you can look on the post for the dual fireball exhaust on here. They said you have to remove the tow hook and it mounts there, something like that.

There are a few people with New Beetles that have had exhaust made to run out of one or both holes in the bumper where the reverse lights are. I never read where they had any problems with melting, although it's got the potential to do that for sure.

I'm not sure how close the pipe would have to be to the underside of the car/trunk area to run it out of the reverse light hole on the xB. I would worry more about that than the bumper melting. I guess you could wrap the pipe with some of that heat insulation stuff to help with that though.
