Yellow has always been traditionally used for fogs because it cuts down on reflected glare. Matching your fog lights to your headlights looks good, but doesn't work as well in fog, which is after all what they are designed for.

I was all about color matched lighting in the past, but after actually using yellow fog bulbs I've changed. When the fogs match the headlight you can hardly tell that they're on. With yellow (or probably any other color) you can clearly see the seperate, low, wide foglight pattern as opposed to just blending with the headlights. It may or may not help as far as vision, but at least I "know" my fogs are turned on now.
