Oil questions
I had a 06 tC. Valvoline sent me all the oil for it. I have like 3 cases of the 5w-30 at the house. Now my 08 xB takes 5w-20. I should be able to use the 5w-30 right. What do you think?

I'd use it above 40F ambient. I'd be hesitant to use it in colder weather. In fact, I'll probably be running 5-30W in the summer months and 5-20W during the rest of the year.

I wouldn't hesitate to use 5-30W in my XB if I had some already but after reading the above article, I'll be running 5-20W instead. I'll also be skipping Scion's 'free' oil changes and running full synthetic.

from the toyota dealer that changed my oil.
and if you read your owner's manual on page 239 the recommended oil viscosity is 0w-20. and the oil i have seen you can't get 0w-20 in a non synthetic oil.
look at
0w-20 mobil
0w-20 amsoil

On page 239 the manual states:
"SAE 5-20W or 0-20W engine oil may be used. However, SAE 0-20W is the best choice for fuel economy and good starting in cold weather."
If I lived in Alaska, I'd run 0-20W but here in Maryland it rarely ever gets below 20F so I'll be running 5-20W year round. Remember that the first weight is the base oil and the second weight is the result of the polymers added to thicken the oil at higher temps. The less polymers the better and 0W base oil is pretty thin for warmer climates.
FWIW, WalMart has Mobil One 5-20W in a 5qt jug for $22.
