Prolly have about 6 hours into it....it was a monstrous PITA. All I have is a circular saw, a sabre saw, and a drill which is missing the chuck key...all are about 25 years old.

It is made of 0.75" MDF, inside volume comes to ~1.432 ft^3, sub takes up 0.07 ft^3, and I added stuffing which makes the volume about 10% more coming to 1.496 ft^3. The sub calls for 1-2, 1.5 being ideal.

I realize that angling the sub would have been better, but I could not compromise the cargo space any further.

Best of all, it was cheap. You are looking at about $80. 150w RMS, 12" sub, way more than I need.

you did good! isn't it amazing what silicone and carpet will cover i remember my first box as well. had basically the same tools, plus i handscrewed it all together... now i have my f.i.l.'s 5000.00 table saw, routers, finish nailers, exotic glues, and a best friend that does some crazy installs on 1/4 mill. cars, and still no sub....

running wire today for sub amp, checking into focal, image dynamics, and tried and true jl audio. still gotta rewire wifes 08 bcm as well... and acl surgery on monday..

That's a very nicely made box, and as it has been before, the carpet looks fantastic. I would have never guessed it was your first time just looking at it.

And you're pretty lucky being that your happy with 150w rms. I can't crack a smile unless I'm pushing about 500w rms.

Have you looked at elemental designs? I am thinking about trying out some of their subs. I've had JL mostly and some Fosgate stuff.

The user reviews look pretty good.

I am currentyl running a JL 12W6v2, slot ported box and JL amp. I need to upgrade the factory speakers soon.

Here are the pics in the car. I am thinking about hitting the carpet with black dye, but I kinda like the contrast/match to the upper color in the interior.

It sounds great! No boom, no mud, just nice, clean accent.

No wires visible!




You can't really tell in this pic, but the edge of the box is flush with the edge of the DS rear seat.

I have been having a problem with bass linearity (bass change disproportionate to volume change) and heat.

I fixed the linearity with some gain adjustments, but the heat problem remains.

The amp is mounted with 4-8 inches of air space on all sides, but just 5 minutes of use make it fairly warm, and the commute from work make it hot enough that I cannot rest my hand on the heat sinks. Granted, it was 95° today, and it probably averaged 105°+ ambient near the rear hatch on the way home, (warmer when I left, cooled by AC somewhat by the time I got home). It didn't clip or cut out or anything; it just seems warm to me.

I don't think your amp should be getting that hot.

Do you have the upgraded head unit? If so, did you turn on the subwoofer control?

When I had the subwoofer control turned off, my amp got REALLY HOT pretty quickly.

If that's not the problem, do you have the amp bridged?

I would consider dyeing at least the top of the sub dark black so it blends in better through the privacy glass. I would hate to read a thread about both of your boxes getting jacked

Maybe just some black fabric held on with the hook side of some velcro so its easily removed

The car has an AVIC-D3 installed. Yes, the amp is a 2-channel and is bridged.

How does it sound with it hooked to the pioneer radio? I am considering changing the head unit because it don't like the way it fades. My doesn't seem to have much sound from the rear speakers. I am not sure if it is the radio, the speaker setup or me. Thanks for your help.... BTW very nice job for your first.

The front and rear output are much closer with the AVIC-D3. Check out the thread called "rear speakers quiet?" or something like that.

I decided to give the sub a little help...

This is the back of the hatch panel...1.5 layers (2 in middle, 1 on edges) of Dynamat Super, plus the original deadening glued back in place.

I am going to do the door speaker areas and the HVAC intake later.
